MONUSCO/MONUC was established in 1999 under the auspices of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). The mission's objectives include supporting the Government of DRC in protecting civilians and stabilizing the region by establishing functional state institutions. MONUSCO operates in various capacities to reduce violence against civilians and enhance the rule of law, focusing on human rights and humanitarian law violations in the DRC.

Job Overview:
The Vehicle Technician - Electrical/Electronic Repairs and Diagnostic Tools is responsible for maintaining and repairing the electrical and electronic systems of the Mission's UNOE fleet. This role involves using diagnostic tools to conduct tests, providing technical support to other technicians, and participating in the acquisition of new diagnostic tools. The technician will also be responsible for training national staff, preparing documentation for vehicle write-offs, and ensuring compliance with safety procedures. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently in a politically sensitive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform maintenance and repair of the electrical/electronic systems of the Mission's UNOE fleet.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as onboard diagnostics scanners and multimeters to conduct regular tests and identify vehicle malfunctions.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to fellow technicians regarding vehicle electrical and electronic systems.
  • Participate in the acquisition and programming of new diagnostic tools and software.
  • Identify and procure the correct spare parts for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Monitor spare parts usage and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Conduct training sessions for national staff on the use of diagnostic tools.
  • Guide workshop staff on the proper use of service tools.
  • Prepare vehicle write-off documentation and ensure compliance with established procedures. 1
  • Develop reports on workshop performance and vehicle warranties. 1
  • Implement and monitor safety procedures in the workshop. 1
  • Perform any additional tasks as directed by the Motor Transport Officer or Workshop Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in vehicle electrical and electronic systems, with demonstrated expertise in diagnostic tools and repair techniques. A high degree of autonomy, personal initiative, and the ability to work independently under established procedures are essential. The candidate must also exhibit integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a relevant technical diploma or certification in automotive technology, electrical engineering, or a related field. Additional training in diagnostic tools and vehicle repair is highly desirable.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, specifically focusing on electrical and electronic systems, is required. Experience working in a UN or international organization is an advantage, as is familiarity with the operational context of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary working language in the DRC. Knowledge of English is also beneficial, and familiarity with local languages such as Lingala, Kikongo, Tshiluba, and Swahili is a plus.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a non-family assignment, which means that staff members are expected to live in single accommodations. The living conditions can vary significantly, with basic amenities available in remote areas. The role may involve working in challenging environments, and candidates should be prepared for potential travel within the region.
