Job Overview: The Principal Quality Digital Resilience Engineer will play a crucial role in leading the digital resilience strategy for the organization. This position is responsible for defining and implementing frameworks that ensure mission-critical systems remain operational during disruptions. The engineer will integrate principles from established standards such as DORA, NIST, and ISO 22301 into all layers of technology and processes. The role involves hands-on leadership, requiring collaboration with IT, Cybersecurity, and Business Continuity teams to embed resilience into infrastructure and cloud platforms like Azure, M365, and SAP. The engineer will be tasked with ensuring that the organization can withstand and recover from various disruptions, including cyberattacks and system outages, thereby shaping the organization's operational resilience and readiness for unexpected events.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Principal Quality Digital Resilience Engineer will be responsible for the following duties:
Own and manage the end-to-end digital resilience framework, ensuring alignment with the Bank's enterprise risk, continuity, and IT strategies.
Ensure compliance with recognized standards and regulatory frameworks such as DORA, NIST 800-53, and ISO 2230
Define resilience principles, service criticality tiers, and assurance requirements across the technology estate.
Document, approve, and test IT service continuity plans, disaster recovery playbooks, and crisis escalation procedures.
Support teams in embedding resilience into design and runbooks, covering both infrastructure and application-level scenarios.
Develop and lead a resilience testing calendar that includes tabletop exercises, failover and failback testing, communication drills, and live scenario simulations.
Coordinate with IT, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security, Capability teams, legal, compliance, and business continuity functions to ensure a unified approach to resilience.
Provide regular briefings to senior risk committees and support regulatory engagement related to resilience testing.
Ensure third-party services are included in resilience testing and planning.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of digital operational resilience principles, aligned with regulatory and best practice frameworks such as DORA, NIST 800-34/53, ISO 22301, and enterprise risk management (ERM) standards. They should have experience in conducting business impact assessments (BIA), technology risk analysis, dependency mapping, and scenario-based testing to evaluate the resilience of critical business services, IT assets, and third-party dependencies. Additionally, candidates should have experience developing and maintaining IT service continuity plans (ITSCM), disaster recovery (DR) playbooks, and incident response procedures, with a focus on continuous improvement through post-incident reviews and tabletop exercises. Familiarity with cloud and hybrid environments (e.g., Azure, M365, SAP) is essential, as is the ability to interpret telemetry, SLAs, and failover mechanisms to enhance service resilience and recovery capabilities. Proven collaboration skills with IT, cybersecurity, operations, legal, and compliance teams are also required.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas such as Business Continuity Management, Cybersecurity, or Risk Management are highly desirable. Candidates should also hold certifications such as ISO 22301 Lead Implementer, CISSP, CRISC, or SAFe DevOps, or possess equivalent experience in the field.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in digital resilience, IT service continuity, disaster recovery, or related fields. Experience in a leadership role is preferred, with a proven track record of managing complex projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the EBRD member countries, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
Additional Notes: This position is a fixed-term contract lasting 3 years. The role is full-time and based in Sofia, Bulgaria. The EBRD promotes a hybrid working model, encouraging collaboration in person at least three days a week.
