Job Overview:
The Assembly Engineer position is situated within the Assembly and Commissioning Support Division (ACSD) of the Engineering Services Department (ESD) at the ITER Organization. This role is crucial for managing assembly and construction activities related to the ITER project, ensuring that all work is performed safely, efficiently, and within budget. The Assembly Engineer will be responsible for resolving safety, quality, and technical issues, ensuring that deliverables meet project schedules and quality standards. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a groundbreaking fusion energy project, working alongside a diverse team of professionals. The role also involves developing skills and experience under the guidance of a discipline manager, contributing to the overall success of the ITER project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Assembly Engineer include ensuring that assembly work conducted by contractors meets specified quality standards, providing input on engineering work scope completion, and maintaining documentation throughout the assembly phase. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to enhance communication and optimize workflows, collect and verify input data for assembly, and review deliverables produced by external contractors. Additional responsibilities include providing support for assembly-related problems, reviewing detailed workshop drawings and installation procedures, and issuing inspection reports as necessary. The role may require shift rotations and working at heights, depending on project needs.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess proven experience in coordinating or supervising design, procurement, assembly, and installation of complex mechanical systems within international environments. Essential qualifications include knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practical experience in assembly and installation, and familiarity with health and safety regulations on construction sites. Effective communication skills, project management capabilities, and a commitment to continuous improvement are also required. Desirable qualifications include understanding industry codes and standards, knowledge of mechanical manufacturing techniques, and the ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline is essential for this position. Candidates with extensive professional experience in similar roles or additional training certificates in relevant domains may also be considered. The educational background should provide a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles and practices related to assembly and construction.

Experience:
Candidates should have a proven track record of experience in coordinating or supervising assembly and installation activities, particularly in complex mechanical systems. Experience in international projects is highly valued, as it demonstrates the ability to work effectively in diverse environments. The role requires practical knowledge of assembly processes and a strong understanding of project management principles.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
The initial employment contract for this position is up to five years, with the possibility of extension. The selection process aims to fill multiple positions and create a reserve list of candidates for future vacancies. The entry grade for this position begins at P1, with the final grade determined by the IO Director General. The role may involve shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on project requirements. A valid driving license in France is required for staff expected to work outside standard hours.
