Job Overview: The Construction and Facilities Management Associate plays a crucial role within the Safety, Security and General Services Section (SSG) of ICAO. This position is responsible for providing operational support in the planning, coordination, and management of security and office services, including the oversight of construction and facilities management projects. The incumbent will work closely with the Senior Construction and Facilities Management Associate to address complex technical issues and support ongoing projects related to General Services and Facilities Management (GFM). The role requires a proactive approach to ensure that projects are implemented effectively and efficiently, with a focus on achieving desired outcomes and maintaining high standards of service delivery. The associate will be involved in various aspects of project management, including documentation, stakeholder communication, and technical support, contributing to the overall success of the GFM team.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Construction and Facilities Management Associate include:
Providing operational support for the implementation of GFM projects by reviewing project requirements, drafting correspondence, and coordinating with stakeholders for data collection and dissemination.
Supporting the review and completion of project documents, organizing and coordinating the development of necessary documentation, and providing technical support as needed.
Contributing to the coordination and monitoring of tasks related to project preparation, including maintaining project tracking systems, preparing reports, and assisting in the coordination of daily operations.
Assisting in the technical development and implementation of furniture within current Building Standards, preparing specifications, reviewing supplier documentation, and coordinating delivery and installation.
Participating in coordination meetings for various Headquarters projects, preparing project-related documents, and providing technical input and solutions.
Performing other related duties as assigned to support GFM in daily facilities service-related activities.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Construction and Facilities Management Associate position include:
A high school diploma or equivalent is essential, along with a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in architecture or a related field.
A minimum of six years of professional experience in interior/exterior construction and maintenance works is required.
Experience in procurement regulations, space planning, and the ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical plans (DWG) is mandatory.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for producing architectural plans, including millwork details, is essential.
Experience in troubleshooting real-time scenarios and the ability to supervise and coordinate the work of others is desirable.
Additional training or certification in construction is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent, along with a Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in architecture or a related field. Additional training or certification in construction is desirable and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates must possess a minimum of six years of professional experience in interior and exterior construction and maintenance works. Languages: Fluent reading, writing, and speaking abilities in both English and French are essential for this position. Additionally, a working knowledge of any other language of the Organization, such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may be beneficial in a multicultural work environment.
Additional Notes: This position is locally recruited and is restricted to Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and applicants with a valid work permit. The role is offered on a fixed-term basis for an initial period of one year, with the first year serving as a probationary period for external candidates. ICAO staff members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting their status as international civil servants and may be assigned to various activities or offices within the organization. The position offers a net base salary of CAD 55,741 per annum at the G-6 level, along with an attractive benefits package in accordance with the policies of the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC).
