Job Overview: The WASH Assistant will work under the supervision of the WASH Officer, playing a crucial role in supporting the implementation of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) programs. This position is vital for achieving project targets and ensuring regular monitoring and reporting of progress. The WASH Assistant will provide technical guidance to ensure that program implementation adheres to international and national technical standards and guidelines. Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Assistant will have a variety of responsibilities, including:
Collaborating closely with the WASH Officer to ensure that project objectives are met effectively.
Supporting the program team, including the monitoring and evaluation officer, in collecting primary data from operational locations using appropriate data collection instruments for rapid assessments and baseline surveys.
Representing FHI 360 at the community level and establishing relationships with key community figures, local stakeholders, and other relevant parties.
Monitoring the routine implementation of activities under the guidance of the WASH Officer.
Regularly monitoring indicators and targets using developed monitoring checklists.
Providing specific field progress reports on programmatic matters.
Working closely with target health facilities and communities to collect facility-level information required by the WASH Coordinator and WASH Officer.
Handling any additional responsibilities assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least 2-3 years of national work experience in an NGO setting, particularly in areas related to primary health care, nutrition, WASH, or other humanitarian projects. Hands-on experience in designing, implementing, and managing WASH programs with a focus on public health promotion in humanitarian settings is strongly required. Experience in conducting rapid needs assessments and baseline assessments is considered a plus. A sound understanding of the socio-economic and political situation in Oromia is essential, along with experience in representing the employer at relevant platforms and liaising with key stakeholders. Candidates should be willing to travel frequently and for extended periods to FHI 360 operational locations. A good understanding of the UN Cluster System and international and national minimum standards of services in humanitarian settings is also required.
