Job Overview: The Biomedical Specialist and Data Steward position is integral to the SPINCO team within MSF International. The role focuses on providing expert advice in the creation and management of product codes and related information, ensuring the quality and availability of medical products, and facilitating the maintenance of spare parts, accessories, and consumables. This position is crucial for maintaining coherence with existing policies and guidelines set by MSF's medical and logistic directors. The specialist will ensure that product information is accessible through operational tools such as Unicat and SharePoint, which are essential for the effective functioning of MSF's operations. The role supports various levels of the organization, from field projects to supply centers, ensuring that the right products are available for patient care and operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Biomedical Specialist and Data Steward will be accountable for several key responsibilities:
Creation of product codes and descriptions for the entire MSF movement, ensuring that projects can order the necessary materials for quality patient care.
Collection and dispatch of information regarding Medical Devices and In Vitro Medical Devices in compliance with EU and ISO norms.
Selection of suitable products for field use through a standardized process that considers quality, availability, and adherence to protocols.
Gathering and consolidating information on new products, including quality dossiers and maintenance requirements, and presenting this information for validation by the Medical Directors’ platform.
Harmonization of products across different operational centers to ensure interoperability in field projects.
Maintenance of the quality of product information in the UniData tool, ensuring its accuracy and validity as the single source of product information.
Ensuring accessibility and visibility of product information on operational tools for MSF staff worldwide.
Participation in interagency meetings and projects as directed by the Medical Directors’ platform.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in biomedical sciences or a related field, with a deep understanding of medical products and their applications in humanitarian settings. They should have experience in product management, data stewardship, and quality assurance processes. Familiarity with international standards for medical devices and logistics is essential. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required to ensure the accuracy and reliability of product information. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders within MSF and external partners.
Educational Background: A degree in biomedical engineering, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of medical product regulations and standards, as well as experience in data management and analysis.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in biomedical product management, data stewardship, or a similar role within a humanitarian or healthcare context. Experience working in international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable, as is familiarity with supply chain management and logistics in emergency settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French or Spanish is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to MSF's operational contexts will be considered an advantage.
