Job Overview: The Budget and Programming Assistant position is crucial for providing technical support in the planning, monitoring, and analysis of project financial performance. The role involves ensuring the optimal use of financial resources and reporting directly to the Budget & Programming Officer. The job holder will be responsible for contributing to budget reviews, analyzing financial performance, and making recommendations to enhance compliance with WFP's financial policies. This position requires a proactive approach to managing project funds, ensuring accurate data entry into corporate systems, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders regarding financial matters. The assistant will also support the preparation of financial documents and reports, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of WFP's financial operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review budget plans and monitor project financial performance, making recommendations to support financial analysis and resource optimization.
Analyze funds and grants balances, referring discrepancies to the supervisor to aid in fund utilization and decision-making.
Facilitate pipeline management to prevent and address pipeline breaks, maximizing operational effectiveness.
Enter accurate data into corporate systems within deadlines to support planning and decision-making.
Compile data and provide basic analysis, maintaining accurate records and preparing periodic and ad hoc reports for stakeholders.
Update the status of open items (commitments and pre-commitments) and follow up with relevant units for timely action.
Communicate with individuals regarding project funds management to clarify discrepancies and optimize fund usage.
Prepare and disseminate weekly fund management analyses.
Support budget inputs for donor proposals and corporate reports. 1
Perform any other tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school education, with a post-secondary certificate in Finance, Accounting, or Budgeting being desirable. A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or budgeting is preferred. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in finance, accounting, or budgeting, with a proven track record of assisting in the preparation of complex financial documents and supporting budget analyses. Experience in collecting pipeline data is also essential.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include the completion of secondary school education, with a preference for candidates holding a post-secondary certificate in a related functional area such as Finance, Accounting, or Budgeting. A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or budgeting is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or budgeting. Candidates should have experience in preparing complex financial documents, performing budget analyses, and collecting pipeline data. Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English, the UN language in use at the duty station, is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required for this position.
Additional Notes: This position is offered under a Service Contract for a duration of 12 months, specifically for Pakistan Nationals only.
