The organization focuses on responding to the development priorities and changing needs of the region, with a commitment to enhancing cooperation among its members and associate members. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment, with a minimum duration of two months, extendable up to six months. Interns will work five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours, under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned. The role is intended to support ongoing projects and initiatives that align with ESCAP's mission of promoting sustainable development in the region. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in various tasks that will enhance their understanding of the operational aspects of a UN organization and contribute to meaningful projects that impact the region's agricultural practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks that may include, but are not limited to: providing support to ongoing projects related to sustainable agricultural mechanization; assisting in social media outreach efforts to promote ESCAP's initiatives; offering administrative support to ensure smooth operations within the office; working on presentations that communicate project findings and updates; and consolidating and sorting data to assist in research and analysis efforts. The specific responsibilities assigned to each intern will depend on their individual background, skills, and the duration of their internship, allowing for a tailored experience that aligns with their academic and professional goals.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements to be eligible for the internship: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). This ensures that interns possess a foundational level of education and knowledge relevant to the tasks they will undertake during their internship.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes either a graduate degree or a bachelor's degree. Candidates who are currently enrolled in a graduate program or have recently completed their studies are encouraged to apply, as this internship is designed to provide practical experience that complements academic learning. The focus on sustainable agricultural practices and technology means that candidates with backgrounds in agricultural sciences, environmental studies, or related fields may find this internship particularly relevant.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not explicitly required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in sustainable development, agricultural practices, or related fields. Any relevant volunteer work, academic projects, or internships that showcase a commitment to these areas will be viewed favorably. The internship is designed to be an entry-level opportunity for individuals looking to gain experience within a UN organization and contribute to impactful projects.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for the internship programme, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, knowledge of French is advantageous, as it is also a working language within the organization. Proficiency in other languages may be beneficial, but English and French are the primary languages of communication within the UN context.

Additional Notes:
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, meaning that they will not receive any salary or stipend during their internship. All costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of China may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting their internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements with the organization prior to accepting the internship offer. Furthermore, it is emphasized that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a transparent and fair selection process.
