Job Overview: The Investigations Support Officer will play a crucial role within the Office of Internal Oversight (OIO), which is responsible for conducting independent investigations into allegations of misconduct, including fraud, corruption, harassment, abuse of authority, sexual exploitation and abuse, and other violations of organizational rules and regulations. The officer will work under the overall supervision of the OIO Director and the direct supervision of the Deputy Director (Investigations). The position involves compiling and analyzing statistical data related to investigative activities, preparing briefing materials, monitoring ongoing case activities, and providing liaison support between the Investigations Division and various stakeholders. The officer will also assist in maintaining confidentiality and managing sensitive investigation documentation, contributing to the overall effectiveness and integrity of the investigations process.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Investigations Support Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: compiling and analyzing statistical data related to investigative activities, preparing and reviewing briefing materials, monitoring ongoing case activities, assisting in the editorial quality control of investigation reports, providing liaison support between the Investigations Division and other entities, organizing and participating in case coordination meetings, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive documentation, and providing operational and administrative support to the Deputy Director and staff of the Investigations Division. The officer will also contribute to other technical and administrative tasks as needed, ensuring that all activities align with IOM’s investigation methodologies and protocols.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Law, Criminal Justice, Finance, Forensic Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field with at least two years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a Bachelor’s degree in the aforementioned fields with four years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. The role requires clear and professional communication skills, discretion in handling confidential information, exceptional time management abilities, and a high level of proficiency with software including Microsoft Office and SharePoint. Candidates should demonstrate high ethical standards and a commitment to impartiality.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in relevant fields such as Law, Criminal Justice, Finance, Forensic Accounting, or Business Administration. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in these fields are also eligible if they have the requisite professional experience. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of investigations and the legal frameworks surrounding them.
Experience: The position requires responsible professional experience preferably dealing with issues related to internal oversight, law, criminal justice, accounting, compliance, inspections and monitoring, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, or data analytics. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in environments that require a high level of integrity and professionalism, as well as experience in managing sensitive information and conducting thorough investigations.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, both oral and written. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Given the international nature of the organization, proficiency in multiple languages can enhance communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The position is a fixed-term contract for one year with the possibility of extension. It is classified at the P-2 grade level and is intended for professional recruitment. Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile, and any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in similar positions for a period of 24 months. Appointment is contingent upon medical fitness certification, security clearances, and compliance with residency or visa requirements. Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for individuals hired on or after November 15, 2021, and this will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
