Job Overview: The EmergencyGrants Manager will be a vital member of Mercy Corps’ DRC Emergency Team, working closely with the Emergency Programs Director and other key personnel to ensure high-quality programming within the emergency response portfolio. This role involves supporting the implementation of life-saving interventions, particularly under the SAFER program, which is a consortium of international NGOs. The Emergency Grants Manager will be responsible for securing new funding opportunities, managing donor reporting, and overseeing sub-award management processes. The position requires a proactive approach to program excellence, continuous improvement, and innovative collaboration with internal and external partners to enhance program quality and effectiveness.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Emergency Grants Manager will have a wide range of responsibilities, including: contributing to the strategic direction of the Emergency Department portfolio; ensuring compliance with Mercy Corps and donor regulations in managing awards and subawards; overseeing program implementation to ensure timely delivery of activities; supervising the Deputy Emergency Grants Manager; coordinating proposal development processes; managing donor communications; organizing regular stakeholder meetings; ensuring adherence to program policies and protocols; monitoring financial projections and reporting; and representing Mercy Corps in the humanitarian community.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess internationally recognized experience in project or program and grants management, with 5-7 years of experience working with European donors, FCDO, and US institutional donors. They should have field experience in humanitarian and emergency programming, particularly with displaced populations. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential, along with the ability to produce high-quality deliverables independently. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent program management and financial skills, coaching and mentoring abilities, and the capacity to work effectively in multicultural teams.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in international development, humanitarian studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, particularly for candidates with extensive experience in grants management and emergency programming.
Experience: The position requires significant experience in grants management, proposal development, and donor reporting, particularly in the context of humanitarian assistance. Candidates should have a proven track record of working with displaced populations and managing complex programs in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: The position is based in Goma, DRC, with potential relocation to other Mercy Corps bases depending on the evolving context. It requires up to 15% travel to support emergency programs, including travel to insecure locations. The role involves shared housing arrangements and access to medical services. The organization promotes ongoing learning, allowing team members to dedicate 5% of their time to personal and professional development.
