Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Information Management Unit of the Department of Peace Operations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The internship is designed to provide practical experience in the field of information management, particularly in relation to peace and security operations. Interns will work closely with the Peace and Security Data Hub team, engaging in projects that aim to enhance the effectiveness of the department's operations. The role is full-time, requiring 35 hours per week, but can be adjusted to part-time or remote based on the candidate's needs. Interns will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic initiatives, support the development of data ecosystems, and gain insights into the workings of the United Nations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be involved in various tasks including assisting in the management of information systems, supporting data analysis, and contributing to the development of solutions that enhance the peace and security operations of the UN. They will work on projects that require collaboration with different stakeholders, including governmental and non-governmental entities. Interns will also be expected to engage in user-centric design processes, contribute to the deployment of GenAI solutions, and automate routine tasks to improve efficiency. The role may involve using advanced data analytics capabilities to address core business problems and enhance the overall effectiveness of the department's initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Desired qualifications include a proactive approach to applying emerging technologies, familiarity with self-service analytical tools like MS Power BI or Tableau, and an interest in relational databases such as SQL Server.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as political science, international relations, information management, or a related discipline. The internship is open to students in their final year of undergraduate studies, as well as those pursuing master's or doctoral degrees. Proof of enrollment or completion of the relevant degree program will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While prior professional experience is not mandatory, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic knowledge or practical experience in areas related to political, human rights, or humanitarian affairs. Experience in user-centric design processes or technical skills in data automation and analytics will be considered advantageous for applicants.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, and proficiency in these languages will enhance the candidate's ability to contribute effectively to the team.
