Job Overview:
The Communication Associate will play a crucial role in implementing the advocacy and communication strategy focused on climate change and food security as part of the Adaptation Fund project. This position requires a proactive individual who can work closely with various stakeholders, including government ministries and media personnel, to enhance communication efforts. The associate will be responsible for developing media toolkits, drafting communication materials, and executing social media strategies. The role also involves training project partners and facilitating community awareness sessions, ensuring that the communication strategy aligns with gender equity and social inclusion principles. The Communication Associate will report directly to the Project Coordinator and collaborate with the WFP Communications unit and other relevant departments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communication Associate will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Mapping partners to identify strategic partnerships for effective communication strategy implementation.
  • Developing media toolkits in collaboration with ministerial public relations personnel and training media houses, journalists, and editors on their usage.
  • Drafting and editing various communication materials such as press releases, publications, and social media posts.
  • Maintaining web content and executing social media strategies to enhance project visibility.
  • Training key project partners on awareness-raising strategies.
  • Supporting the rollout of district action plans related to communications and social behavioral change.
  • Developing targeted press kits on topics such as weather forecasts, climate change, and food security.
  • Facilitating community awareness sessions through dialogue, training, and mobilization activities.
  • Conducting basic meteorological and climate change understanding courses for journalists and editors. 1
  • Supporting the consolidation of project progress reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis. 1
  • Generating and disseminating social media content consistent with Adaptation Fund guidelines. 1
  • Preparing and distributing information products such as news releases, brochures, and infographics to various stakeholders. 1
  • Maintaining contact with journalists and media outlets, managing the flow of information, and monitoring media coverage of project activities. 1
  • Organizing field visits for external missions and documenting activities through audio-visual productions. 1
  • Performing any other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Communication Associate position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Willingness to build the capacity of others through both formal and informal training processes.
  • Proven ability to facilitate and train diverse audiences effectively.
  • Competence in preparing relevant documentation and training materials.
  • Ability to meet agreed deadlines consistently.

  • Excellent oral communication skills to convey information effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a post high school diploma in communications, mass media communications, or international relations. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of communication in a humanitarian context and for effectively engaging with various stakeholders.

Experience:
A minimum of six years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations is required for this position. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to manage communication strategies, engage with media, and facilitate training sessions.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communication materials and reports will be prepared in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the local context, would be considered an asset and beneficial for engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders.
