Job Overview: The ET Consultant/External Affairs Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Global Engagement at the World Bank Group. This position is designed for a strategic thinker who can effectively translate high-level strategies into actionable plans. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that the stakeholder engagement, partnerships, and campaign management priorities of the ECRGE (External and Corporate Relations Global Engagement) are met. The role requires a blend of strategic insight and operational execution, enabling the consultant to navigate between overarching goals and day-to-day tasks. The consultant will work collaboratively across teams to align activities with the World Bank's mission, track progress on various initiatives, and ensure that Global Engagement efforts yield measurable results. This position is ideal for someone who is adept at managing multiple projects and can provide analytical insights to inform decision-making processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The ET Consultant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the Director in defining and operationalizing ECRGE’s strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with the World Bank Group’s overarching goals.
Translating strategic ideas into actionable plans, timelines, and deliverables across various Global Engagement pillars, including civil society organizations, philanthropy, think tanks, academia, private sector, and youth.
Tracking progress on initiatives, ensuring timely follow-up, and providing necessary analysis and recommendations.
Developing briefing materials, concept notes, and synthesis documents that simplify complex stakeholder dynamics into actionable insights.
Collaborating with internal and external partners to advance key global engagement campaigns and initiatives.
Supporting the Director in coordinating efforts across different regions and practices within the World Bank Group to ensure consistency in stakeholder engagement.
Monitoring campaign progress, documenting lessons learned, and informing future initiatives.
Designing and managing partnerships with various stakeholders, identifying opportunities for collaboration and resource mobilization.
Serving as a central coordination point for the Director, ensuring smooth workflow and alignment among teams. 1
Leading or coordinating special projects and tracking work programs, budget planning, and reporting cycles. 1
Overseeing the collection and analysis of data related to stakeholder engagement and campaign impact, preparing strategic updates and reports.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in International Relations, Development, Business Administration, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement, strategy, partnerships, or development operations is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in cross-sector collaboration, particularly with multilateral institutions, the private sector, philanthropy, and civil society. Strong organizational and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and deliver results under tight deadlines. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are also necessary, as the role involves working across teams and influencing stakeholders without direct authority. A deep understanding of the World Bank Group’s mission, structure, and operations is preferred.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in fields such as International Relations, Development, Business Administration, or other related disciplines. This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of global engagement and development operations, which are critical to the role of ET Consultant.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience. This experience should encompass areas such as stakeholder engagement, strategy development, partnerships, and operations within the development sector. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in environments that require cross-sector collaboration, particularly involving multilateral institutions, private sector entities, and civil society organizations.

Additional Notes: This position is a one-year appointment, renewable at the discretion of the World Bank Group. It is subject to a lifetime maximum ET appointment of three years. If an ET appointment ends before a full year, it is considered as a full year toward the lifetime maximum.
