Job Overview:
The Area Manager position is pivotal in overseeing DRC’s operations in the North Ethiopia Region, specifically in Tigray and Afar. The role involves strategic management and direction of humanitarian responses, ensuring that DRC's activities align with the needs of the affected populations. The Area Manager will work closely with the Senior Management Team to develop and implement strategies that address the challenges faced by communities in the region. This includes fostering relationships with various stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting a culture of accountability. The Area Manager will also be responsible for ensuring that DRC's programs are effectively integrated and that the organization remains responsive to the evolving context in the area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Area Manager will lead the strategic development of the Area Office, ensuring that DRC's activities are relevant and effective. Key responsibilities include overseeing program implementation, ensuring compliance with humanitarian principles and donor regulations, and maintaining high standards of project management. The Area Manager will supervise technical program managers, develop project proposals, and ensure timely delivery of reports to stakeholders. Additionally, the role involves managing support services, including finance, HR, and logistics, to ensure efficient operations. The Area Manager will also be responsible for safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols, ensuring that risks are mitigated and staff are protected. This includes regular reviews of the security situation and coordination with the country office on safety matters.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience in a similar role within an INGO, particularly in humanitarian and development sectors in conflict-affected areas. At least 5 years of experience in senior project management is required, along with strong skills in managing diverse teams. Candidates should demonstrate experience in fundraising, proposal development, and representation with donors and external actors. Strong analytical and writing skills, as well as the ability to work independently and manage competing demands, are essential. Familiarity with strategy development and advocacy is also important for this role.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in law, social sciences, international development, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical foundation and practical understanding needed to navigate the complexities of humanitarian work and program management.

Experience:
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing humanitarian programs, particularly in high-intensity conflict zones. A proven track record of leading teams and projects, along with a strong understanding of the challenges faced by displaced populations, is crucial. Experience in safety and security management, as well as in developing and implementing strategic initiatives, will be highly valued.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. The role is designated as a Non-Accompanied Position, meaning that the Area Manager will not be accompanied by family members during their assignment. The start date for this position is December 1, 2025, and the salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expat/National employees.
