Job Overview: The Project Assistant for Indigenous Affairs will work under the general supervision of the Program Chief and the Project Coordinator. This role is crucial in supporting project activities aimed at assisting indigenous populations, particularly those affected by the Venezuelan migration crisis. The assistant will engage in community dialogues, provide guidance to applicants for residency, asylum, and refugees, and facilitate collaboration with government entities, civil society partners, and academic institutions. The position requires a proactive approach to developing and monitoring programs that address the needs of indigenous migrants, ensuring that their rights are protected and that culturally sensitive solutions are implemented. The assistant will also be responsible for preparing educational materials for training sessions and workshops, conducting local visits, and adapting project activities to meet the diverse contexts of indigenous communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate in community dialogues and provide assistance and guidance to indigenous applicants for residency, asylum, refugees, and migrants from the Venezuelan flow, offering insights on the situation in the country and referring them to relevant authorities as necessary.
Assist in coordinating work with the government, civil society partners, private sector, and academic institutions to facilitate the development, monitoring, and evaluation of assigned programs/projects for the indigenous population.
Support the preparation of materials for online and in-person courses, meetings, workshops, seminars, and conferences with local governments and partners, focusing on the human rights of indigenous peoples and culturally sensitive solutions.
Conduct local visits and travel as needed to implement and coordinate project activities, address issues with counterparts, and adapt actions to different local contexts.
Assist in the development and dissemination of informational materials for indigenous refugees and migrants, including translation and review of materials in Spanish and Warao.
Perform other related tasks as required.
Required Qualifications:
A minimum of two years of relevant work experience.
Experience working with government, civil society, UN agencies, or private sector actors.
Experience in migration and refugee issues, whether in the public or private sector, international organizations, or civil society is an advantage.
Proficiency in MS Office tools is required.
Educational Background: A high school graduation certificate is required, along with a university degree at the bachelor's level in International Relations, Political Science, Administration, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of relevant work experience, particularly in roles that involve interaction with government entities, civil society organizations, or international organizations. Experience in migration and refugee contexts is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the tools and practices of project management and coordination.
Languages: Mandatory languages include Portuguese (practical knowledge) and Spanish (fluent). Desirable languages include English (practical knowledge) and Warao (fluent). Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. This position is subject to local recruitment, and only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Brazil will be eligible for consideration.
