Job Overview: The Consultant for Fundraising for Gender Issues will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing fundraising strategies aimed at enhancing gender equality and women's empowerment initiatives within the UNODC framework. This position requires a strategic thinker who can identify co-fundraising opportunities, develop grant proposals, and create donor-specific materials. The consultant will also be responsible for organizing fundraising and advocacy events that align with the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda, ensuring that gender mainstreaming efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean are effectively coordinated. The role demands a comprehensive understanding of gender issues and the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including UN agencies and development partners, to foster collaborative fundraising efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
Implementing the fundraising strategy by leading the development of joint programme concepts on gender and crime in collaboration with UNODC divisions and regional programmes.
Convening and leading consultations with UN agencies and development partners to identify opportunities for joint fundraising and programming.
Facilitating bilateral and multilateral meetings with Member States, donors, and partners to promote UNODC’s gender initiatives.
Developing and packaging strategic knowledge products, including finalizing the Best Practices Compendium on Gender Programming and creating the UNODC Vision for Women, Peace, and Security.
Coordinating joint UNODC events for the WPS@25 anniversary and developing external messaging for awareness campaigns.
Raising awareness and coordinating outreach efforts related to gender issues in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in International Development, Social Sciences, Law, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in gender equality, women's empowerment, and gender mainstreaming is required. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of gender mainstreaming methodology, particularly in fundraising, and have a strong background in securing funding for gender-related initiatives. In-depth knowledge of gender issues, especially the intersections with crime, justice, and drug-related challenges, is essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary for engaging with potential donors and partners, along with experience working for UN and other international organizations.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as International Development, Social Sciences, Law, or gender studies is highly desirable. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with relevant experience, may also be considered acceptable. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in gender issues and related disciplines.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience that demonstrates progressive responsibility in the areas of gender equality, women's empowerment, and gender mainstreaming. Candidates should have a proven track record in fundraising, particularly for gender-related initiatives, and experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly valued.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of Spanish is desirable, and proficiency in another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.
