The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) bans nuclear explosions by everyone, everywhere: on the Earth's surface, in the atmosphere, underwater and underground. Since the Treaty is not yet in force, the organization is called the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO). It was founded in 1996, has over 260 staff from over 70 countries, and is based in Vienna. The CTBTO’s main tasks are the promotion of the Treaty and the build-up of the verification regime so that it is operational when the Treaty enters into force.

The organization is headquartered in Vienna, Austria, and is responsible for setting up a global verification system to monitor compliance with the treaty, which prohibits all nuclear weapon test explosions. Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Public Information Section of the CTBTO is designed to provide interns with hands-on experience in public information and communication strategies. Interns will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Public Information Section and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the organization's outreach and communication efforts. The role is particularly focused on enhancing the visibility of the CTBTO's mandate and activities to a wide range of stakeholders, including the general public, media, and internal audiences. Interns will engage in research, content creation, and media analysis, which are essential for promoting the CTBT and its verification regime. This internship is an opportunity for individuals to develop their skills in a dynamic environment while contributing to important global issues related to nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: researching and managing daily press clippings, providing summaries for senior management; drafting content for social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter; monitoring comments and conducting media research and analysis; researching and drafting articles for the CTBTO's public website; assisting with public diplomacy strategies to promote the Treaty’s entry into force; building media profiles for public information stakeholders; researching media outlets in different countries and regions; assisting in the production of audiovisual content, including sourcing photos, videos, and music; organizing audiovisual files; creating engaging social media content such as short videos, animations, photo collages, and graphics; and undertaking other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This diverse set of responsibilities will provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of public information work within an international organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates applying for the internship must meet specific qualifications, including being at least 18 years of age and no more than 35 years of age. At the time of application, candidates must have completed at least two years of full-time study leading to a degree in relevant fields such as international relations, political science, history, public information, journalism, marketing, or film production. Additionally, applications may be accepted from individuals who have completed their degrees within the last two years, whether they hold a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. This ensures that the internship is accessible to a wide range of recent graduates and students.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes a minimum of two years of full-time study in fields related to international relations, political science, history, public information, journalism, marketing, film production, or other relevant disciplines.
