Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) was established on 29 May 1948, following the United Nations security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council's resolution 50 (1948), which called for a cessation of hostilities in Palestine. UNTSO is tasked with observing and maintaining ceasefires and assisting in the supervision of the 1949 Armistice Agreements. The organization operates in five countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. UNTSO's mission is critical in promoting peace and stability in the region, and it employs a diverse workforce dedicated to these goals.

Job Overview:
The Field Security Assistant position is located in the Security Section at UNTSO Headquarters in Jerusalem. This role is classified at the GS-3 level and reports directly to the Guard Force Supervisor, while also being under the overall supervision of the Chief Security Officer and Deputy Chief Security Officer. The primary functions of this position include ensuring the security of the UN complex by screening personnel, packages, and vehicles, issuing ID cards, monitoring security systems, and responding to emergencies. The incumbent is expected to maintain logs of events, control traffic, and provide information to visitors and staff. The role requires a commitment to security protocols and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment, emphasizing teamwork and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Security Assistant will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: screening all personnel, packages, and vehicles entering the UN complex to ensure authorized access; issuing appropriate ID cards to visitors and contractors; providing continuous monitoring of security systems including cameras and communication devices; responding to emergencies and incidents under the supervision of the Guard Force Supervisor; maintaining chronological logs of events during emergencies; providing information and directions to individuals associated with the organization; controlling pedestrian and vehicular traffic; reporting any potential or actual breaches of security; ensuring that all UN property being carried from the complex is checked for appropriate documentation; performing regular shift duties, including afternoons, mornings, and nights; supporting SIOC-ops as required; and performing any other duties assigned by the Guard Force Supervisor or Chief Security Officer.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or an equivalent technical or vocational certificate. A valid driver's license in Israel and the West Bank is required, and the ability to drive manual shift vehicles is desirable. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, such as MS Word and Excel, is essential. Knowledge of Guard Force processes is also desirable. Candidates should demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication skills, as these are critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or an equivalent technical or vocational certificate. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and duties associated with security operations within the UN framework.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in military, police, local security organizations, or other security functions. Additionally, at least one year of experience in security access control procedures is desirable. This experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of security operations and the ability to respond effectively to various situations that may arise.

Languages:
English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, knowledge of either Arabic or Hebrew is desirable, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level I in these languages. This linguistic capability is important for effective communication within the diverse environment of the United Nations.
