Job Overview: The Project Assistant position at IOM in Brazil is crucial for supporting the implementation of various projects aimed at addressing the protection, assistance, and integration needs of migrants, refugees, and other vulnerable populations. The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer in Boa Vista and collaborate closely with various coordinators. The role involves assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, compiling and analyzing data, managing budgets, and coordinating administrative tasks. The Project Assistant will also be responsible for drafting reports, responding to inquiries, organizing meetings, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work independently while adhering to established guidelines and structures.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities; retrieving, compiling, summarizing, analyzing, and presenting information/data on specific project topics; monitoring project budgets and verifying the availability of funds; acting as a focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation; drafting status reports and correspondence on project issues; preparing and updating various forms of documentation; responding to complex information requests; organizing meetings, workshops, and training sessions; participating in meetings and conferences; assisting in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities and partners; monitoring the work of implementing partners and reporting non-compliances; and providing guidance and training to new or junior staff members.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School diploma with at least four years of relevant professional experience or a Bachelor’s degree in political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with at least two years of relevant professional experience. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and have experience in administrative requirements and project management.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as political or social sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, or Law. The educational qualifications should be from an accredited academic institution, ensuring that candidates have a solid foundation in the principles and practices relevant to migration and humanitarian work.
Experience: Candidates should have experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage. The ability to work independently and according to established structures and guidelines is essential for this role.
Languages: IOM's official languages are English, French, and Spanish. Proficiency in these languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Candidates are expected to demonstrate their language skills effectively, as communication is a key aspect of the role.
