The organization has a multifaceted interaction with the private sector, receiving technological, financial, and human resources support to improve the lives of those affected by conflicts or natural disasters. IOM is committed to enhancing its engagement with private sector stakeholders in line with the Global Compact on Migration (GCM) and its Private Sector Engagement Strategy (2023 – 2027).

Job Overview:
The consultant will contribute to IOM Ethiopia’s efforts to enhance private sector engagement. This role involves mapping potential private sector partners, developing outreach strategies, and securing formal partnerships. The consultant will be responsible for conducting outreach to establish at least six new partnerships, particularly focusing on diaspora engagement and migrant-led initiatives. The consultant will also compile a comprehensive final report detailing all private sector engagement activities, including updated partner data and actionable recommendations for future strategies. The position requires participation in internal coordination meetings and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective engagement and alignment with IOM’s goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complete a comprehensive partnership mapping document identifying potential private sector partners, including a high-level partnership, outreach, and fundraising strategy. This will involve creating a detailed spreadsheet with contact information, key decision-makers, and a rationale for engagement.
  • Conduct initial outreach to secure at least six new formal private sector partnerships, maintaining a log of outreach attempts and outcomes, and summarizing all formal meetings.
  • Submit a comprehensive final report on private sector engagement activities, including updated partner data, key performance indicators, and an analysis of successes and challenges.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings to discuss private sector engagement strategies and progress.
  • Ensure that all documentation related to partnerships is complete and up-to-date, including agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs).
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on the analysis of partnership outcomes and trends in private sector engagement.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess exceptional research, analytical, and synthesis skills, along with excellent writing and communication abilities. A deep understanding of international migration frameworks and familiarity with the migration context in Ethiopia is essential. The candidate should also have demonstrated experience in organizing training sessions and strengthening institutional capacities. Knowledge of IOM’s principles on cooperation with the business and private sectors is a distinct advantage. The candidate must be able to work collaboratively and effectively across various units to achieve shared goals.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have an advanced degree, such as a Master’s degree or equivalent, in social sciences, business, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of private sector engagement and migration issues.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of professional experience in partnerships, business or private sector relations, due diligence, and/or risk mitigation is required. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to navigate the complexities of private sector engagement and establish successful partnerships.

Languages:
Proficiency in IOM’s official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, is mandatory. Knowledge of a local language is advantageous and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with local partners effectively. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy may require travel to regions within Ethiopia, subject to supervisor approval and safety conditions. IOM will cover all related and pre-approved travel costs, including accommodation and meals. The appointment is contingent upon funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) for the duration of the consultancy. However, consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM maintains a zero-tolerance policy on conduct incompatible with its objectives, including discrimination and harassment. The organization does not charge any fees during the recruitment process and only accepts applications submitted through its online recruitment system.
