Job Overview:
The Programme Management Intern position at UNOPS Horn of Africa Multi-Country Office (HAMCO) is designed to provide support to the Transactional Unit in various capacities. The intern will be involved in data extraction and collection from multiple sources, assisting in data analysis and structuring, and compiling updates for different users. The role includes conducting periodic project health checks and supporting the organization of meetings, including preparing minutes and tracking progress on action items. The intern will also assist in compiling progress reports, lessons learned, and best practices, as well as developing and administering a program management dashboard. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties and responsibilities include:
  • Providing support to the Transactional Unit with data extraction and collection from various sources.
  • Assisting in the analysis and structuring of data and compiling periodic updates for different users.
  • Supporting the conduct of periodic project health checks.
  • Assisting in setting up regular and ad-hoc meetings, preparing minutes and summaries of actions to be taken, and tracking progress on planned issues.
  • Compiling and distributing progress reports, lessons learned, best practices, and periodic newsletters.
  • Supporting the development and administration of a program management dashboard.
  • Assisting in documentation management processes through the review of project documentation.
  • Supporting the harmonization of Programme Management templates and the rollout of tools.
  • Assisting in the rollout of the capacity building and training plan on program management. 1
  • Supporting the design and rollout of necessary systems and processes to strengthen program management. 1
  • Participating in Transactional Unit-led meetings and initiatives to build experience in project management. 1
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Programme Management Intern position include a first-level degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in relevant fields such as Project Management, Business Administration, Procurement, Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Health, Social Studies, Development Studies, or other related disciplines. The applicant should have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the start date of the internship. While no prior work experience is required, advanced knowledge of computers and office software packages, particularly Google Suite, is considered an asset. Fluency in written, spoken, and oral English is mandatory for this role.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first-level degree (Bachelor’s Degree) in a relevant field such as Project Management, Business Administration, Procurement, Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Health, Social Studies, Development Studies, or other relevant disciplines. The degree should have been obtained within three years prior to the start date of the internship, ensuring that candidates are recent graduates or have recently completed their studies.

Experience:
While no prior work experience is required for this internship position, candidates should demonstrate a strong willingness to learn and develop their skills in project management. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in a professional setting, particularly within the context of international development and project management.

Languages:
Fluency in written, spoken, and oral English is required for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external partners. While not mandatory, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of the diverse regions in which UNOPS operates.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract is for a duration of six months and is classified as an internship contract type. It is important to note that this internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS, and there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship. Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions.
