Job Overview: The Technology Manager role within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU) is designed for an experienced professional who possesses strong stakeholder engagement skills and technical expertise. The primary function of this position is to lead innovation and digital transformation initiatives across globally distributed teams. The ITS VPU aims to leverage information and technology to accelerate and sustain development impact, aligning technology strategies with organizational business priorities. The Technology Manager will engage with internal and external stakeholders to advance the unit’s strategic objectives, ensuring that the unit’s work program aligns with the department’s vision and strategic objectives. This role will also involve managing the unit’s budget and ensuring compliance with financial policies, while developing roadmaps and frameworks for various operational product lines.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technology Manager will be an active member of the ITS Management Team, responsible for several key areas:
Business Engagement & Strategic Planning: Develop and implement technology strategies aligned with organizational priorities, lead strategic planning for the Operations Products portfolio, and interface with senior business leaders to provide project updates and manage expectations.
First Year Accountabilities: Develop roadmaps for Knowledge for Operations, expand knowledge products, and establish well-functioning teams within the unit.
Program Delivery: Provide strategic technology advisory to the Bank’s knowledge agenda, lead the development of AI-driven knowledge solutions, and oversee the design and delivery of technology solutions tailored to risk analysis.
Leadership and Talent Management: Promote WBG leadership values, attract and retain high-performing talent, and foster an inclusive, high-performance culture.
Manage the unit budget and oversee legal and procurement processes for technology partnerships.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a deep understanding of institutional technology strategies and international development environments, with a proven track record of leading and developing technical teams. They should have experience designing and implementing digital solutions that are user-friendly and tailored to diverse user groups. Familiarity with agile delivery, modern app development practices, and technical problem-solving is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate strong organizational skills, analytical capabilities, and the ability to present complex technical concepts to various audiences.
Educational Background: A master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field is required, along with 10+ years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant experience is acceptable. Post-graduate coursework in digital technology, information technology, innovation, AI, or related subjects is preferred. Certifications in Agile methodologies, PMP, ITIL, Cloud, AI, or other industry certifications are also preferred.
Experience: Candidates should have extensive experience in international development, emerging markets, or social impact sectors. Proven ability to lead and manage multicultural, geographically distributed teams is essential, along with experience in developing, mentoring, and succession planning for professional technical staff. A track record of managing large-scale enterprise engagements and cross-functional partnerships is also required.
