Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Coordinator, providing essential support in various capacities. The role involves assisting in the preparation of meetings, drafting support materials, and ensuring that the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus (HDPN) is integrated into inter-agency discussions. The volunteer will also engage in funding tracking, communication with field teams, and contribute to the mapping and analysis of HDPN priorities in crisis situations. This position is crucial for enhancing collaboration among partners and ensuring that humanitarian responses are effective and coordinated, particularly in the context of Colombia's ongoing challenges related to migration and displacement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist the Humanitarian Coordinator by taking notes during meetings, providing technical support, and drafting materials for various inter-agency groups, ensuring that the HDPN is considered in all discussions.
Support inter-agency tasks, including funding tracking and communication with field teams to gather information and disseminate key products and meeting minutes to partners.
Identify opportunities and provide support for new and existing mechanisms to strengthen joint approaches and planning across the HDPN with various partners.
Contribute to HDPN mapping analysis, defining common priorities in multiple crises.
Assist the Humanitarian Coordinator and their team with reporting, tracking deadlines for key segments of the Refugees and Migrants Response Plan and the Humanitarian Response Plan.
Support information management colleagues in validating product updates, ensuring data accuracy and presentation.
Assist in consolidating monthly data and preparing periodic reports, including SitReps, fact sheets, briefing notes, guidelines, and SOPs, in coordination with the Information Management Team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances are essential. Familiarity with humanitarian principles and the HDPN approach is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development, as well as a strong ethical framework and respect for diversity.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, international relations, development studies, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with relevant certifications or training in humanitarian response, project management, or related areas will be considered favorably. A solid understanding of the socio-political context in Colombia and the challenges related to migration and displacement is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience in humanitarian settings, particularly in roles that involve coordination, reporting, or support functions. Experience working with inter-agency groups or in a multi-stakeholder environment is advantageous. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations, particularly in relation to migration and humanitarian response, will be a significant asset.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, given the local context and the need for effective communication with partners and stakeholders. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is often used in reporting and coordination with international partners. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may be considered a plus.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in Bogotá, which is considered a safe environment for UN personnel. The IOM office is located in the upscale neighborhood of Chico, providing good access to amenities and services. National UN Volunteers are included in the malicious insurance plan, ensuring their safety and well-being during their assignment.
