The organization focuses on promoting good governance, sustainable development, and resilience in the country. UNDP's mission is to support initiatives that ensure equality, dignity, and opportunities for all citizens, aligning its efforts with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The organization operates in various sectors including governance, economic development, social protection, environmental sustainability, and health system strengthening, particularly in malaria prevention.

Job Overview:
The role of the Online Volunteer is crucial in enhancing UNDP's communication efforts by translating the UNDP Guinea-Bissau Annual Report 2024 from English to Portuguese. This task is essential for ensuring that the report is accessible to Portuguese-speaking stakeholders, including government counterparts and the general public. The translation will help in effectively communicating UNDP's achievements and aligning them with national priorities, thereby fostering greater visibility and support for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Guinea-Bissau. The selected volunteer will be provided with a 25-page document that requires a concise and audience-appropriate translation, adhering to UNDP's communications guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Translate the UNDP Guinea-Bissau Annual Report 2024 from English to Portuguese, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Maintain the original meaning and intent of the document while adapting it for the target audience.
  • Follow UNDP's communications guidelines throughout the translation process.
  • Collaborate with UNDP staff to clarify any ambiguities in the text and receive feedback on the translation.
  • Submit the completed translation within the agreed timeline, ensuring it meets the quality standards set by UNDP.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with strong translation skills.
  • Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives, particularly in the context of Guinea-Bissau.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Previous experience in translation or related fields is an advantage but not mandatory.

Educational Background:
A background in languages, communications, international relations, or a related field is preferred. However, candidates with relevant experience and skills may also be considered regardless of formal educational qualifications.

Experience:
While prior experience in translation is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong command of both languages and an understanding of the context in which UNDP operates in Guinea-Bissau. Experience in working with international organizations or NGOs is a plus.

Languages:
Mandatory: Proficiency in English and Portuguese. Good to have: Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region or UNDP's work may be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract is not specified. The role is part-time and can be performed remotely, allowing for flexibility in working hours. Volunteers will receive guidance and support from UNDP staff throughout the translation process.
