Job Overview: The Driver position is crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of authorized personnel. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and discretion while performing their responsibilities. This role requires the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, reflecting the organization's commitment to inclusivity and respect for diversity. The Driver will be responsible for maintaining vehicles in good working condition, ensuring timely transportation, and providing administrative and facility support as needed. This position is essential for the smooth operation of various projects and initiatives undertaken by UNOPS in Guinea-Bissau, particularly in the context of the Agricultural Diversification Project (REDE), which aims to improve rural households' incomes, food security, and capacity to adapt to climate change.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's duties include providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation of authorized personnel and, where applicable, cargo or hazardous goods. The Driver will collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items as required, and meet and assist assigned personnel at the airport, facilitating immigration and customs formalities. The Driver is also responsible for maintaining accurate daily vehicle logs and providing input for maintenance plans and usage reports. Routine vehicle maintenance checks are required, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, ensuring vehicles are kept in good working condition. The Driver will carry out minor repairs and coordinate major repairs as needed, keeping assigned vehicles clean and roadworthy at all times. Additionally, the Driver must ensure the availability and safekeeping of all required documents and supplies, including insurance, registration, logs, maps, office directory, first aid kit, and spare parts. In the event of an accident, the Driver must take immediate action in line with organizational rules and regulations. The role also includes assisting Administrative or Support Services with procurement processes, maintaining inventory records of office supplies and equipment, and supporting facility management by arranging minor repairs and liaising with artisans. The Driver will monitor and support the maintenance of office equipment to ensure optimum performance and respond promptly to repair and maintenance requests raised by authorized personnel.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school education (or equivalent) with at least 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with no prior experience required. A valid driver’s license and completion of driver’s training are mandatory. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations is essential, and candidates should demonstrate a commitment to safety and professionalism in driving practices. Additionally, candidates should have experience in safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair, which are critical for this role.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a secondary school diploma or equivalent, along with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with no prior experience required. A valid driver's license and completion of driver’s training are also required to ensure that the candidate is adequately prepared for the responsibilities of the role.
Experience: The position requires relevant experience in safe driving, defensive driving, and minor vehicle repair. Candidates should have a solid understanding of driving rules and regulations.
