Job Overview: The Senior Investment Officer position is a critical role within the Equity Investments Unit (EIU) of the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) at ADB. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the investment activities of ADB Ventures, which includes conducting due diligence, executing deals, managing portfolios, and overseeing administrative functions. The role requires a proactive approach to mainstreaming ADB Ventures into PSOD operations, contributing to the identification and scaling of innovative technology solutions that enhance the effectiveness of ADB's operations. The Senior Investment Officer will be responsible for sourcing new investment opportunities, building a robust investment pipeline, and evaluating investment risks while analyzing financial data and performing business valuations. This position also involves managing day-to-day fund operations, supporting portfolio companies, and coordinating with other departments on strategic policy matters. The Senior Investment Officer will be expected to participate in knowledge-sharing events and contribute to the development of policies and strategies that align with ADB's developmental goals for the private sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include:
Mainstreaming ADB Ventures into PSOD operations by supporting the operations of ADB Ventures and contributing to a pipeline of impactful non-sovereign projects.
Identifying, incubating, and scaling innovative technology solutions to enhance ADB's operational effectiveness.
Sourcing new investment opportunities and building a high-quality investment pipeline through personal networks and relationships.
Evaluating investment opportunities, assessing risks, analyzing financial data, building financial models, and performing business valuations.
Supporting the full investment life-cycle, including due diligence, closing processes, pre and post-funding support, follow-on funding, and exit management.
Analyzing markets and sectors, tracking investment trends, and managing day-to-day fund operations and administration.
Overseeing portfolio and impact monitoring, management, and investor/donor reporting.
Supporting fund investor management and fundraising operations.
Developing policies and strategies for ADB's private sector developmental goals in consultation with stakeholders. 1
Coordinating with other departments on project-related and strategy policy matters. 1

Supervising the performance of reporting staff, providing direction, monitoring performance, and ensuring ongoing learning and development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Senior Investment Officer position must possess a Bachelor's degree in management or finance, with a preference for those holding a Master's degree or equivalent. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in venture capital and support for early-stage technology businesses is required, along with at least 4 years of supervisory experience. Candidates should have experience working with venture capital funds, including fund administration and reporting, and should be familiar with the early-stage investment cycle, including deal origination, due diligence, deal execution, and portfolio management. A genuine interest in startups and technology, particularly in sectors such as fintech, agritech, and healthtech, is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential for this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Senior Investment Officer position includes a Bachelor's degree in management or finance. Candidates with a Master's degree or equivalent qualifications are preferred, as this advanced education can provide a deeper understanding of financial principles and investment strategies relevant to the role.
Experience: The position requires at least 8 years of relevant experience in the field of venture capital, particularly in supporting early-stage technology businesses. Additional Notes: This appointment is open to both internal and external applicants and is funded by a temporary funding source, which means that the renewal of the appointment and its duration are subject to the availability of that funding. The position is a fixed-term appointment with the option to renew, initially for a period of up to 3 years or until the Normal Retirement Date (NRD), whichever comes first. After the initial fixed-term period, ADB may choose to renew the appointment for up to an additional 3 years, depending on various factors including the need for the staff's skills and experience, funding availability, and the staff's performance. It is important to note that this appointment is not convertible to a regular appointment.
