Job Overview:
The GEDSI Intern position at WRI Indonesia offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the country's low-carbon transition in the transport sector by integrating gender equality, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI) perspectives into climate action initiatives. The intern will support the implementation of the GEDSI Action Plan across various transport initiatives, ensuring that decarbonization efforts are inclusive and equitable. This role involves collaborating with the GEDSI team to conduct policy reviews, coordinate with government and partner institutions, and promote a sustainable transport system. The intern will also engage in data collection and analysis to ensure that the benefits of transport decarbonization are shared equitably. Additionally, the intern will work closely with mobility teams to draft technical briefs and policy roadmaps, contributing GEDSI-relevant insights to these documents. The position is based in Jakarta with an office-flex arrangement, allowing for a collaborative work environment while reporting directly to the GEDSI Analyst and working alongside the Urban Development Senior Program Lead. The intern will also have the opportunity to share lessons learned from the project with colleagues across WRI, both in Indonesia and globally, and is expected to actively integrate equity considerations into research and organizational culture.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The GEDSI Intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks aimed at supporting the integration of GEDSI perspectives into transport decarbonization efforts. Key responsibilities include conducting policy reviews to assess the current state of GEDSI integration in transport initiatives, coordinating with government agencies and partner institutions to mainstream GEDSI considerations, and promoting an inclusive and sustainable transport system. The intern will also engage in data collection and analysis to evaluate the co-benefits of transport decarbonization, ensuring that these benefits are distributed equitably among different social groups. Additionally, the intern will assist in drafting technical briefs and policy roadmaps, providing GEDSI-relevant insights to enhance the quality of these documents. The role will involve participating in national-level stakeholder engagement processes, collaborating with various stakeholders, including governments, NGOs, and development partners, to contribute to evidence-based policy development. The intern will also be expected to manage project documentation, track activities, and develop engagement materials and policy outputs, all while strengthening communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex technical findings to diverse audiences.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the GEDSI Intern position should possess a recent bachelor’s degree or be final-year students in relevant fields such as Anthropology, Sociology, Politics and Governance, Public Policy, Transportation Studies, Social or Human Geography, or related disciplines. A basic understanding of GEDSI principles and a demonstrated interest in climate change, transport, and sustainable development through coursework, projects, or extracurricular activities are essential. Additionally, candidates should have basic experience with research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative), data management tools/software, data analysis, and literature review. Strong proficiency in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia is required, along with a highly motivated, proactive, and target-oriented attitude. The ability to work independently and collaboratively, along with creative problem-solving skills and good organizational abilities, is also important. Candidates must be legally eligible to enroll in an internship program in Indonesia.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to have a recent bachelor’s degree or be final-year students in fields relevant to the role, such as Anthropology, Sociology, Politics and Governance, Public Policy, Transportation Studies, Social or Human Geography, or related areas. While extensive professional experience is not required, candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in climate change, transport, and sustainable development through their academic and extracurricular activities.

Languages:
Proficiency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory for this position, both in written and spoken forms. This language requirement is essential for effective communication with stakeholders and for contributing to policy documents and research outputs. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not explicitly required for this role.

Additional Notes:
The internship program is expected to start immediately and will last for a duration of six months. This is a full-time, paid internship position. Interns will receive standard wages and travel insurance for any domestic or international travel duties assigned by WRI Indonesia. Interns will also gain access to the WRI global network and work in an environment that prioritizes diversity and inclusion. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples as part of the selection process.
