Job Overview:
The Nutrition Data UN Volunteer position at UNICEF Nigeria is designed to support the strengthening of Nutrition Information Systems in the country. The role involves providing technical support in nutrition program planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting. The volunteer will work closely with the UNICEF team to ensure that data is effectively utilized to inform programming and policy decisions. This position is crucial in addressing malnutrition and ensuring that children and women have access to optimal diets and services. The volunteer will also engage in capacity-building activities and contribute to the overall mission of UNICEF to promote children's rights and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing technical support in nutrition program planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Supporting data visualization using GIS software such as ArcGIS and Power BI, producing maps and dashboards.
  • Managing nutrition databases using tools like Excel and other internal software.
  • Developing program-appropriate information products based on audience needs and data availability.
  • Conducting field visits to monitor data collection quality and providing supportive supervision.
  • Supporting nutrition situation analysis and internal/external reporting needs.
  • Participating in nutrition data capacity-building activities.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Additionally, the volunteer is encouraged to engage with communities and promote volunteerism through various activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, proficiency in data management and visualization tools, and a solid understanding of nutrition programs. They should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for effectively conveying data insights and program information. The ideal candidate should also have a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, particularly in promoting children's rights and well-being.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in public health, nutrition, statistics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in these areas will be considered an asset. Candidates should have a solid understanding of nutrition and health data systems, as well as experience in data analysis and reporting.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in nutrition program support, data management, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs, particularly in the context of nutrition and health programs, is highly desirable. Familiarity with data visualization tools and GIS software is also beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNICEF. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nigeria would be an advantage, as it can facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The duty station is in Abuja, with frequent travel across the country as required. The average monthly rent for housing ranges from USD $1,000 to $3,000, and the volunteer should select housing in secure areas.
