Job Overview:
The position of Website Development Volunteer involves working closely with our organization to create a new charity website that will serve as a vital resource for parents and guardians in our community. The website will be designed with a mobile-first approach, ensuring accessibility and ease of use for all users. The volunteer will be responsible for the entire development process, from initial concept to final launch. This includes coding, designing an innovative layout, and ensuring that the website functions smoothly. The goal is to provide a platform where important information and updates can be shared with parents, enhancing communication and engagement within the community. The volunteer will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in web development while contributing to a meaningful cause.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the organization to understand the specific needs and objectives for the website.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan for the website structure, including navigation and content organization.
  • Code the website using appropriate programming languages and frameworks.
  • Design an innovative and user-friendly layout that aligns with the organization's mission and branding.
  • Ensure the website is mobile-responsive and accessible to all users.
  • Test the website for functionality, usability, and performance, making necessary adjustments based on feedback.
  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for the website post-launch, including updates and troubleshooting.
  • Work with other volunteers or team members to gather content and resources for the website.
  • Document the development process and provide training to staff on how to manage and update the website.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in web development languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
  • Experience with website design and layout principles.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and website hosting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
  • A passion for supporting rural communities and improving access to information.

Educational Background:
A background in computer science, web development, graphic design, or a related field is preferred. However, practical experience and a strong portfolio showcasing previous web development projects may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
Previous experience in web development, particularly in creating charity or non-profit websites, is highly desirable. Volunteers should have a proven track record of successfully completing web projects from start to finish, demonstrating their ability to handle both technical and design aspects of website creation.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of instruction and communication within the organization. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in the local community, would be considered an asset but is not required.
