Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) was established in 1947 and is one of the regional commissions of the United Nations. Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position at UNESCAP is designed for motivated candidates who are interested in gaining practical experience in the field of foreign direct investment (FDI) and investment promotion within the Asia-Pacific region. Interns will be involved in research and policy work that examines investment trends and the role of FDI in supporting sustainable development initiatives. The internship is expected to last between four to six months, with a start date as soon as possible. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in various tasks, including drafting reports, preparing presentations, and assisting in stakeholder engagement and event coordination, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of international organizations and investment promotion agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks that include:
  • Research and Analysis: a. Conducting comprehensive research on investment trends, including foreign direct investments (FDI) in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, utilizing various databases to summarize and analyze data. b. Assisting in the preparation of economic reports, concept notes, and briefing documents that inform policy decisions. c. Supporting research projects that focus on investment trends, industry and sector developments, and FDI flows. d. Contributing to the development of investment project case studies and assessing their impact on sustainable development.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: a. Liaising with government ministries, private sector organizations, and international stakeholders to coordinate meetings, events, and follow-up communications. b. Assisting in scheduling meetings with relevant stakeholders across different countries and sectors to facilitate collaboration and information sharing.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in fields such as computer science, web development, economics, finance, innovation, international relations related to science and technology, or any other related area. b) Alternatively, candidates may be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). c) Candidates should currently be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a Master's degree in economics, public policy, business (MBA), or a related field. d) Experience working with external stakeholders, whether in government or the private sector, is highly desirable. e) A demonstrated interest in FDI, international trade, or economic development trends in the Asia-Pacific region is essential.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program in relevant fields such as economics, finance, international relations, or related areas. Candidates who are in their final year of a bachelor's degree program may also apply, provided they meet the minimum educational requirements. A strong academic foundation in economics or related disciplines is preferred, particularly for those focusing on investment promotion and economic development.

Experience:
The level of experience required for this internship is relatively flexible, as it is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates. However, candidates should have some experience working with external stakeholders, which could include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that involve collaboration with government or private sector entities. A background in research or analytical work, particularly related to investment trends or economic policies, will be advantageous.

Languages:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly languages relevant to the Asia-Pacific region, but English remains the primary language of communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment. The minimum duration is four months, with the possibility of extension up to six months. Interns are expected to work from 0900 to 1630 hours, with a 45-minute lunch break, five days a week, totaling 37.5 hours. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. It is important for non-citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken to obtain the necessary visa and work authorization.
