Job Overview:
The National Social Media and Digital Communications Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of social and digital media activities under the supervision of the Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the Senior Media and Communication Officer in Cairo. This position involves managing the Regional Office and Regional Director's social media accounts in alignment with IOM's global communications strategy. The officer will facilitate the development of social media strategy content in cooperation with country missions, assist in delivering training programs on social media best practices, and support digital fundraising initiatives through storytelling and online campaigns. The role also includes monitoring social media performance, updating the Regional Office website, and maintaining relationships with social media influencers to enhance IOM's visibility and promote positive perceptions of migration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Social Media and Digital Communications Officer include:
  • Assisting in the management of social media accounts for the Regional Office and Regional Director, ensuring alignment with IOM's global communications strategy.
  • Facilitating the implementation of social media strategy content development and activities in cooperation with country missions.
  • Delivering training programs for staff and missions on social media best practices and digital engagement.
  • Supporting the preparation of training materials and toolkits for capacity building in social media use and digital fundraising.
  • Monitoring social media performance and reporting on impact using analytics.
  • Updating the Regional Office website with timely and relevant content.
  • Supporting digital fundraising initiatives through storytelling and online campaigns.
  • Contributing to the regular updating of the regional communications strategy under the guidance of the supervisor.
  • Assisting in the production of a Regional Office podcast by coordinating content and logistics. 1
  • Maintaining relationships with local, regional, and international social media influencers. 1
  • Organizing online outreach events to raise IOM's visibility in the region. 1
  • Developing high-quality text stories, photos, video, and audio content for donor submissions and IOM platforms. 1
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Digital Communications, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, along with two years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in any of the aforementioned fields is acceptable. Candidates must demonstrate competency as a writer and editor in English (native or similar level) and Arabic, with experience managing social media channels and supporting digital media activities. Familiarity with international organizations, preferably within UN systems, is also required, along with previous work experience with other UN agencies or similar organizations, or equivalent private sector experience.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Digital Communications, or a related field from an accredited institution. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. A Master’s degree in the relevant fields is also acceptable, providing a higher level of qualification for the position.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least two years of relevant professional experience in the field of social media and digital communications. Demonstrated experience in managing social media channels and supporting digital media activities is essential. Familiarity with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is preferred, along with previous work experience in similar roles or equivalent private sector experience.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is required for all applicants, both oral and written. IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may be evaluated during the selection process, which could include written and/or oral assessments.

Additional Notes:
Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. This selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations. Recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. National Professional Officers must be nationals of the country of their employment and perform work at the professional level, adhering to the same standards of recruitment qualifications and performance required for International Professional staff. Appointment is subject to certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable.
