Job Overview:
The Protection Assistant-Child Protection role is crucial for the implementation of child protection activities within the refugee and host communities in Uganda. The individual in this position will be responsible for executing a range of child protection prevention and response activities, which include case management, conducting training sessions, and raising awareness among children and the broader community. The role requires close collaboration with Para Social Workers, adolescent groups, parents, and caregivers to ensure that the needs of vulnerable children are met effectively. The Protection Assistant will also engage in project development, implementation, and reporting, ensuring that all activities align with DRC's mission and standards. This position demands a proactive approach to building relationships with various stakeholders and maintaining a strong network of service providers to facilitate quality support for children.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Assistant will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: coordinating with field-level agencies and representing DRC in thematic meetings; maintaining relationships with other sectors and organizations; participating in regular sector meetings; conducting case management services for vulnerable children; identifying and documenting cases of abuse, exploitation, and neglect; conducting assessments such as Best Interest Determination (BIDs) and Best Interest Assessments (BIAs); providing direct services and referrals for children at risk; conducting home visits and assessing living conditions; facilitating training for foster parents; contributing to advocacy efforts; and ensuring compliance with DRC's policies and procedures. The role also involves logistical planning for field visits and monitoring financial commitments against budgets.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field. Additionally, professional training in Best Interest Procedure processes, Child Protection case management, and community-based protection is required. Familiarity with ProGres V4 CP module is essential, along with experience in protection interventions related to refugee operations. The ability to ride a motorcycle is necessary, and knowledge of local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese refugees is considered an advantage. Candidates should demonstrate strong competencies in collaboration, communication, leadership, and integrity, in line with DRC's core values.

Educational Background:
A university degree in relevant fields such as Social Sciences, Community Development, or Guidance and Counseling is mandatory for this position. Additional professional training in child protection and case management processes is also required to ensure that the candidate is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform effectively in this role.

Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience in a related field, particularly within an international NGO context, is required. Candidates should have a background in working with children and vulnerable communities, as well as experience in protection programming and child protection advocacy. This experience is crucial for understanding the complexities of child protection in humanitarian settings and for effectively implementing the necessary interventions.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages spoken by South Sudanese and Congolese refugees is considered an added advantage, as it will facilitate better communication and engagement with the communities served.

The contract for this position is for a duration of 3 months, with a designated duty station in Rhino Camp, Uganda. The expected start date for this role is October 202
