Job Overview:
The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer (Pipeline & Planning) will play a crucial role in the daily planning and coordination of the supply chain operations within the WFP Ethiopia Country Office. This position involves overseeing both upstream and downstream pipeline planning to ensure that the logistics operations align with the organization's objectives. The incumbent will work closely with various units, including Programme, Budget and Programming, and Partnerships, to ensure an integrated approach to supply chain management. The Logistics Officer will be responsible for leading the pipeline section, supervising junior staff, and ensuring that food assistance needs are met efficiently and effectively. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to the evolving operational landscape in Ethiopia, particularly in response to food insecurity and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security challenges. The Logistics Officer will also be involved in developing and implementing innovative logistics initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of food assistance delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Pipeline section and coordinate its day-to-day activities to ensure smooth operations.
  • Plan, organize, and supervise the work of junior staff to ensure tasks are accomplished in accordance with organizational requirements.
  • Manage the daily planning and supply chain pipeline for the country office, ensuring food requirements for various activities are accurately analyzed and monitored.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of logistics procedures to ensure compliance with regional and functional strategies.
  • Plan and lead the implementation of innovative logistics operations and programs for timely and cost-effective food assistance delivery.
  • Coordinate food transfers to ensure timely replenishment and mobilization.
  • Oversee planning for dispatches from various ports and hubs, considering storage capacity and food availability.
  • Build collaborative relationships with counterparts in key supply chain functions to ensure an integrated approach to food assistance.
  • Liaise with customs and transport sections to facilitate timely clearance and movement of WFP cargo. 1
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to consolidate data analysis and prepare reports for informed decision-making. 1
  • Identify and establish productive partnerships with UN agencies, NGOs, governments, and the private sector for coordinated food assistance delivery. 1
  • Represent Logistics in meetings with stakeholders to advocate for WFP's interests. 1
  • Collect and analyze technical data to forecast operational needs and propose evidence-based strategies. 1
  • Analyze the logistics corridor setup for Ethiopia operations and propose improvements for efficiency. 1
  • Conduct financial analysis and budget reviews to optimize fund utilization. 1
  • Prepare accurate documentation for pipeline and planning activities and recommend process improvements. 1
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, resourcefulness, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Experience in logistics operations and supply chain management is essential, along with the ability to establish effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management. A first university degree combined with additional years of related work experience and/or training may also be acceptable. Continuous professional development through training and courses in logistics and supply chain management is highly valued.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least one year of relevant postgraduate professional experience in supply chain planning or logistics operations. Demonstrated technical expertise in supply chain planning tools and processes is required. Experience working with interagency partners in emergency and non-emergency response situations is desirable, as is experience in leading teams and managing logistics operations effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English (Level C) is mandatory, with strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working in a multicultural environment.
