Job Overview:
The Monitoring Assistant position at the Galkayo Area Office is crucial for ensuring quality monitoring and facilitating the effective use of monitoring data. The role involves working closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer and participating in various initiatives aligned with the Planning, Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (PMLE) priorities of the Country Office. The Monitoring Assistant will be responsible for quality monitoring, data collection, and reporting, as well as engaging in evidence generation activities. This position requires active participation in discussions regarding monitoring tools, ensuring accurate data collection, and providing insights during reflection sessions with program colleagues. The Monitoring Assistant will also play a key role in documenting good practices and success stories, contributing to the overall learning agenda of WFP.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Monitoring Assistant will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Quality Monitoring: Actively engage in revising monitoring tools, ensuring quality data collection during various monitoring activities, and reporting findings accurately.
  • Facilitating Utilization of Monitoring Data: Participate in reflection sessions to interpret monitoring data, assist in drafting area-level monitoring reports, and ensure follow-up on previous monitoring findings.
  • Evidence Generation: Support the implementation of the learning agenda by documenting good practices, collecting data for assessments, and contributing to evaluations and reviews.
  • Accountability: Follow up on complaints received from the people served, engage with community members, and represent the Area Office in meetings.
  • Data Management: Ensure timely and quality analysis of collected data, and assist in the drafting of reports.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with program focal points and other colleagues to address operational issues and improve program quality.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of humanitarian and development work, particularly in the context of Somalia. Excellent communication, observation, and analytical skills are essential. Proficiency in using various computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite, is required. Experience in field data collection and community engagement is also necessary. The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess strong problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include the completion of secondary school education or a university degree (Diploma/Bachelors) in relevant fields such as Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Anthropology, Psychology, or any related discipline. A strong academic background in these areas will provide the necessary foundation for the analytical and data management tasks associated with the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of four years of experience, with at least two years specifically in the fields of statistics, internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugee operations, or program-related work. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage effectively in monitoring and evaluation activities, as well as their familiarity with the challenges faced in humanitarian contexts.

Languages:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Somali is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but the primary requirement is strong communication skills in these two languages to ensure effective engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
