Job Overview:
The National Internet of Things (IoT) Specialist will play a crucial role in the FAO Representation in Bangladesh, contributing to the Agriculture Sector Transformation Programme (ATP). This position focuses on developing policy-informed, climate-resilient investment blueprints for six agro-ecological regions in Bangladesh. The specialist will be responsible for integrating agro-ecological and socio-economic analyses into actionable investment strategies that promote agricultural transformation while ensuring environmental sustainability and social inclusion. The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government institutions and the private sector, to mobilize investments that align with national priorities and enhance the agricultural sector's resilience and productivity.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will conduct a comprehensive review of existing IoT solutions for monitoring soil moisture, nutrients, and crop conditions, focusing on technologies suitable for smallholder and climate-resilient agricultural systems. Responsibilities include identifying and configuring sensor hardware and communication technologies, designing sensor deployment strategies, overseeing the installation of IoT systems at demonstration sites, and developing data visualization frameworks for real-time monitoring. The specialist will analyze sensor data to provide actionable insights for irrigation scheduling and resource optimization, document implementation progress, conduct training sessions for stakeholders, and prepare technical documents for internal and external dissemination. Continuous technical support to partners and farmers will also be part of the role, along with any other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science and Applications, Agricultural Engineering, Remote Sensing, or a related field. A minimum of 9 years of relevant professional experience in Information and Communication Technology, particularly in IoT applications for agriculture or environmental monitoring, is required. Additionally, candidates must have a working knowledge of English (level C) and be nationals of Bangladesh. FAO core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Information and Communication Technology, Computer Science and Applications, Agricultural Engineering, or Remote Sensing is required. Candidates should have their qualifications recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires at least 9 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the field of Information and Communication Technology with a focus on IoT applications for agriculture or environmental monitoring. Experience working with FAO, other UN agencies, or international development partners in agricultural development projects in Bangladesh will be considered an asset.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English (level C) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial but is not specified as a requirement.
