In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. Job Overview:
The National Consultant position at UN Women involves supporting the coordination and planning, monitoring, and reporting functions to implement key priorities for 202
  • The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the Partnerships and Coordination Analyst and the Planning, Monitoring and Reporting Analyst in the Dhaka office. The role requires collaboration across UN agencies to support office-wide priorities, partnerships, planning, reporting, stakeholder management, and overall coordination. The consultant will assist in implementing the Gender Equality Acceleration Plan (GEAP), Gender Theme Group (GTG)/Strategic Priority Group 5 (SP-5), and other coordination-related tasks. This position is crucial for ensuring that gender equality frameworks are effectively implemented and that UN Women’s objectives are met in Bangladesh.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for supporting the Coordination Analyst in implementing the GEAP, GTG/SP5, and LCG WAGE workplans for 202
  • This includes coordinating with various groups, carrying out UN-wide activities outlined in the UN Gender Equality Scorecard, and supporting youth and civil society organization (CSO) coordination. The consultant will also assist the Planning, Monitoring and Reporting Analyst with internal and external reporting, including semi-annual and annual reporting using results-based management principles. Additionally, the consultant will support partner capacity development efforts, including developing training materials, and will be involved in editing, writing, and content creation as required. Deliverables include evidence of support in implementing the 2026 workplan, facilitating the implementation of gender equality frameworks, and contributing to internal coordination mechanisms within UN Women.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Gender Studies, International Development, or a related field. They should have at least two years of experience working on gender equality and gender mainstreaming, particularly within UN agencies, government, civil society organizations (CSOs), or development partners. Strong analytical skills, interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to work independently are essential. Candidates must demonstrate excellent English communication and writing skills, with samples of previous work required. Expertise in results-based management (RBM) principles and their application is also necessary.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Gender Studies, International Development, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the frameworks necessary for promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant experience in gender equality and gender mainstreaming. Candidates should have experience working within the UN system, government, or civil society organizations, particularly in roles that involve coordination and monitoring. This experience is vital for effectively supporting the implementation of gender equality initiatives and frameworks.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Bangla is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and UN agencies.

Additional Notes:
The assignment is primarily home-based, but the consultant is expected to attend the office in person at least twice a week. If unforeseen travel to Dhaka or other locations in Bangladesh is required, UN Women will cover travel expenses and provide a per-diem in accordance with the United Nations Daily Subsistence Allowance rate. Payment will be made monthly upon submission of a progress report that evidences the support provided in line with the terms of reference. The consultant will be evaluated based on technical qualifications, including academic qualifications, work experience, analytical skills, and communication abilities.
