Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
ASCOA (Advocacy for Social Change and Outreach Activities) was established on November 3, 2011, with a mission to enhance community awareness regarding HIV/AIDS and combat the stigma associated with it. The organization is committed to promoting peace, environmental protection, and socio-economic empowerment for women and children. ASCOA envisions a world free from HIV/AIDS stigma, where women are empowered, children are safeguarded, and communities thrive in a pollution-free environment. The organization operates in various countries, focusing on local community engagement and global health initiatives.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at ASCOA involves conducting independent research studies on waste management using the Integrated Waste Opportunity Cost (IWOC) metric developed by the Global Waste Cleaning Network (GWCN). Volunteers will be assigned specific types of waste, such as plastic, e-waste, food waste, and more, and will focus their research on designated geographical contexts. The role requires producing a publishable research paper and participating in monthly progress meetings to report on findings and developments. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about environmental issues and waste management, providing an opportunity to contribute to significant research that can influence policy and community practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Each Online Volunteer will be responsible for selecting or being assigned a specific type of waste to study. They will focus their research on a defined geographical area, which could be national, regional, or global. Volunteers will apply the IWOC metric to evaluate the economic, environmental, and social opportunity costs associated with mismanaged waste. They are expected to produce a publishable research paper under the guidance of GWCN and ASCOA, participate in monthly progress meetings, and submit interim reports detailing their research progress and findings. This role requires a commitment to thorough research and collaboration with both ASCOA and GWCN.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong research skills and a background in environmental science, social sciences, or a related field. Familiarity with waste management issues and the IWOC metric is advantageous. Volunteers should demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively, possess excellent written communication skills, and be comfortable engaging in discussions about their research findings. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to the mission of ASCOA are essential.

Educational Background:
A degree or ongoing studies in environmental science, social sciences, public health, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of research methodologies and data analysis techniques relevant to environmental studies and waste management.

Experience:
While prior experience in research is beneficial, it is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a keen interest in environmental issues and a willingness to learn about waste management practices. Experience in volunteer work or community engagement related to health or environmental initiatives will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all research papers and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial, particularly if the research focuses on non-English speaking regions.

Additional Notes:
This is a remote volunteer position, allowing individuals from various locations to apply. The duration of the contract is not specified, but volunteers are expected to commit to the research project for its duration. This role is suitable for individuals seeking to gain experience in research and contribute to meaningful environmental initiatives.
