Job Overview: The primary purpose of this position is to support the framing, writing, and editing for publication of qualitative research conducted by Together for Girls and ESRF. The consultant will work closely with the research teams to synthesize existing data, develop a qualitative research framework, and assist in writing and editing the final report for publication. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government representatives and civil society organizations, to gather insights and data that will inform the research findings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Synthesize the desk review by examining key documents and data sources related to children's experiences of violence, including policy documents and national action plans.
Support the development and implementation of a qualitative research framework for coding and analyzing data collected during field interviews and focus group discussions.
Organize mini writers' workshops and debrief sessions with field teams to ensure effective communication and methodology for coding and writing the qualitative research.
Assist in writing and editing the final report, ensuring it includes an Executive Summary and separate sections for different regions, as well as an academic journal article.
Collaborate with the research team to ensure the findings are accurately represented and effectively communicated to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced university degree in social work, sociology, international relations, development studies, law, child psychology, or a relevant field, OR a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience.
A minimum of five years of professional experience in conducting research and assessments, particularly in child protection and violence against children.
Proven experience in supporting similar assessments for established development organizations, especially within the UN and other multinational agencies.
Strong skills in compiling and analyzing documents and data for research purposes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as social work, sociology, international relations, development studies, law, or child psychology. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with extensive relevant work experience (minimum of 7 years) is acceptable.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in research and assessments, with a focus on child protection and violence against children. Experience in conducting similar assessments for established development organizations, particularly within the UN framework, is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience in compiling and analyzing research data and documents.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Knowledge of Kiswahili is considered an advantage, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.
