Job Overview:
The position of Driver at FAO involves providing essential transportation and messenger services to office staff, ensuring the safety and technical soundness of the assigned vehicle. The role is critical in supporting the operational needs of FAO's various country offices, particularly in Ethiopia, where the organization collaborates with local ministries and institutions to implement sustainable food systems. The driver will be responsible for maintaining the vehicle, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and assisting with logistical tasks as needed. This position requires a reliable individual who can adapt to varying assignments across multiple locations, contributing to the overall mission of FAO in promoting food security and agricultural development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties: driving official vehicles to transport FAO personnel and authorized individuals; delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other communications; maintaining the assigned vehicle by performing daily checks and minor repairs; ensuring the vehicle is parked in secure locations; keeping necessary tools and equipment in the vehicle; following UNDSS guidelines for vehicle tracking and safe driving; recording vehicle movements and expenditures; assisting FAO personnel at the airport; preparing reports for vehicle accidents; delivering and collecting goods for customs clearance; serving as Duty Driver when assigned; and assisting with clerical duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed secondary education (High School Diploma or equivalent) and possess a valid 3rd grade Ethiopian driver’s license. A minimum of three years of work experience as a driver is required, with experience in a UN or international organization considered an advantage. A flawless and safe driving record is also an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of English and good knowledge of local languages used at the duty station. Nationality of Ethiopia is a requirement for this position.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a completed secondary education, which is equivalent to a high school diploma. This foundational education is essential for understanding the responsibilities and tasks associated with the role of a driver in a professional setting.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver. Experience in a UN or international organization is advantageous, as it demonstrates familiarity with the operational protocols and expectations of such environments. A safe driving record is crucial, indicating the candidate's reliability and adherence to road safety regulations.

Languages:
Candidates must have a working knowledge (level C) of English, which is essential for communication within the organization and with international personnel. Additionally, a good knowledge of the local language(s) used at the duty station is required to facilitate effective communication in the local context.
