Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the implementation of IOM’s program activities related to climate change, migration, and health in Uzbekistan. This position involves assisting in the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of initiatives that address the intersection of migration, health, and climate change, ensuring alignment with national priorities and donor requirements. The successful candidate will contribute to projects funded by various international partners, including the Government of Sweden, the IOM Development Fund, and the Asian Development Bank. Key thematic areas of focus include climate change adaptation, migration health, women's empowerment in climate-affected communities, and cross-border health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring effective project delivery, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting, thereby contributing to IOM’s broader efforts to enhance climate resilience and strengthen health systems for migrants and vulnerable populations in Uzbekistan.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely manner.
Retrieve, compile, summarize, analyze, and present information/data on specific project topics to support decision-making processes.
Monitor project budgets, verify the availability of funds, obtain necessary approvals, and update budget-related information as required.
Act as the focal point for administrative coordination of project implementation, involving extensive liaison with diverse organizational units and external parties to initiate requests, obtain necessary clearances, and process administrative actions.
Draft status reports, identifying shortfalls in delivery, bringing them to the attention of the supervisor, and suggesting remedial actions.
Draft correspondence on project issues; prepare and update reports, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other forms of documentation.
Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records; organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, UN agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project.
Assist in monitoring the work of implementing partners and report non-compliances to the supervisor. 1

Required Qualifications: The position requires a school diploma with five years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates must demonstrate strong understanding of the linkages between migration, health, environment, climate change, and border management, with experience supporting project implementation in these thematic areas. Additionally, candidates should possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Educational Background: Candidates must have either a school diploma with five years of relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited academic institution. The educational qualifications must be from institutions recognized in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that the candidate has a solid academic foundation to support their professional responsibilities.
Experience: Candidates should have experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations. Experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking, and other vulnerable groups is essential. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-governmental organizations, or government institutions in a multicultural setting is considered an advantage, as it demonstrates the candidate's ability to navigate complex environments and work effectively with diverse populations.
Languages: Fluency in English and Russian (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Uzbek is considered an advantage, as it enhances communication with local stakeholders and beneficiaries. IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish, and proficiency in these languages may also be beneficial for broader organizational communication.
Additional Notes: This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that only candidates holding a valid residence and work permit for Uzbekistan will be eligible for consideration. The appointment will be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months.
