The intern will play a crucial role in the development of the Human Rights Knowledge Gateway, which aims to host thematic knowledge hubs that facilitate research and information dissemination related to human rights. The intern's responsibilities will also include contributing to the OHCHR intranet and knowledge hub, thereby enhancing the accessibility of information related to human rights. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will assist the Dynamic Knowledge and Library Team in various capacities, including but not limited to:
Supporting the production of knowledge-sharing materials such as videos, tutorials, and website content.
Engaging in library duties, including research and reference queries, cataloguing, indexing, and digitization of materials.
Contributing to collection development and supporting outreach activities organized by the team.
Assisting in data management and document processing as required.
Helping organize events and initiatives aimed at knowledge retention and dissemination. The intern will work closely with team members to ensure the effective delivery of information services and support the overall mission of the OHCHR.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat Internship Programme, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school program (Master's degree or equivalent) or in the final year of a first-level university degree program (Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in fields such as library science, information science, knowledge management, human rights, law, or international relations. Alternatively, applicants who have graduated in these fields within the past year are also eligible. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the principles of the United Nations and possess relevant skills that align with the responsibilities of the internship.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a background in library science, information science, knowledge management, human rights, law, or international relations. This can include being currently enrolled in a Master's program or being in the final year of a Bachelor's program in one of these fields. Graduates from these disciplines who have completed their studies within the last year are also eligible to apply, provided they can commence the internship within a year of graduation.
Experience: While prior work experience is not a strict requirement for this internship, any relevant experience in library services, information management, or human rights research will be considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to the dynamic environment of the United Nations, showcasing their ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
