Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the onboarding and structuring of datasets into the Azure platform to centralize data for improved decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain two-way feedback loops with the EOF team to support ongoing dataset development and refinement.
  • Manage permissions and data systems to ensure secure and consistent access to data.
  • Utilize Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) to track onboarding workflows and document processes, minimizing duplication and preserving institutional knowledge.
  • Perform data cleaning and analysis using Python, supporting advanced analytics and machine learning model deployment within Azure and Databricks environments.
  • Help develop AI tools, including chatbots, to accelerate analysis of cost data and streamline program design processes.
  • Generate projections on program impact and returns on investment, leveraging EOF, UNICEF, and published datasets.
  • Provide actionable insights to inform decision-making and optimize resource allocation.
  • Develop and refine data visualizations and dashboards in collaboration with EOF and external partners to enhance data accessibility and public engagement. 1
  • Use Power BI to monitor platform utilization and user activity. 1
  • Facilitate academic and external collaborations through management of a modeling and dataset request portal.

Required Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a degree program in an undergraduate or graduate school, or a recent graduate (within the last 2 years).
  • Excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • No immediate relatives (e.g., father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office; and have no other relatives in the line of authority that the intern will report to.
  • A degree in a relevant subject, such as data science, analytics, statistics, economics, applied mathematics, finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience or an interest in international development, the global education sector, and international aid is desirable.
  • Proven interest in data science through projects or working experience will be an added advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a degree program relevant to data management, analytics, or a related field. A strong academic record is essential, and preference will be given to those with degrees in data science, statistics, economics, applied mathematics, or finance.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience or interest in data science, international development, or the global education sector. Relevant projects or work experience in these areas will be considered favorably, although specific years of experience are not mandated.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as requirements.

Additional Notes:
The internship is expected to start in September or October 2025 and will run for six months. Candidates must commit to a full-time internship for the entire duration. The internship offers remote and hybrid working options, but candidates must be available during a significant portion of UK working hours. A monthly stipend will be provided based on the candidate's location, with specific amounts outlined for various duty stations.
