Job Overview: The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for ensuring the safe and reliable transportation of the UN Women Regional Director/Head of Office, other UN officials, and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as an excellent understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver will also be responsible for providing driving services to operations and program personnel, consultants, and UN staff on mission. This position demands a client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse national and cultural backgrounds. The Driver will report directly to the Operations Manager and will be expected to maintain the highest standards of service and professionalism.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide reliable and secure driving services, including transporting UN Women officials and facilitating VIP missions.
Deliver and collect mail, documents, and other items to various government offices, embassies, and UN offices.
Meet official personnel and visitors at the airport, assisting with visa and customs formalities as needed.
Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts and take immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
Maintain daily vehicle logs, including mileage, gas consumption, and servicing records.
Ensure all official vehicles are clean, well-maintained, and in good working condition, making minor repairs as necessary.
Maintain all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance and first aid kits.
Provide general administrative and logistical support, including filing, photocopying, and assisting with office supplies management.
Assist the RO Security focal point with meeting logistics and maintaining security checklists. 1
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have completed secondary education and possess a valid driver’s license. A minimum of three years of relevant experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system is required, with a proven safe driving record. Experience in providing administrative support to an office is considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate excellent driving skills, knowledge of driving rules and regulations, and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs. Strong defensive driving skills and punctuality are essential.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to have completed secondary education. A valid driver’s license is also mandatory for this role, ensuring that the candidate is legally permitted to operate a vehicle in the relevant jurisdiction.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least three years of relevant experience as a driver, specifically within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. A safe driving record is essential, and experience in providing administrative support to an office will be viewed favorably, enhancing the candidate's suitability for the role.
Languages: Working knowledge of English is required, along with fluency in Turkish. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is desirable and would be considered an advantage in this position.
