Job Overview: The position of Senior Investment Officer is situated within the Infrastructure and Energy Division (IEN) of IDB Invest, which leads the development and delivery of operations in transport, water and sanitation, energy, and social infrastructure across all regions. The role involves maintaining responsibility for origination and customer relationships, leading the structuring, negotiation, approval, and closing of projects covered by the Infrastructure and Energy Division in the RID Region. The Senior Investment Officer will be expected to lead outreach efforts and assist in the origination and structuring of infrastructure projects in the member countries. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and targeting new business opportunities, preparing and delivering client pitches, and leveraging existing networks to bring in new clients while maintaining and growing relationships with existing clients. The role also encompasses deal origination and execution, upstream project preparation, team leadership and development, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and fostering synergies within the IDB Group.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Investment Officer will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
Business Development & Client Acquisition: Identifying and targeting new business opportunities by proactively researching potential clients, leading the preparation and delivery of client pitches, and leveraging existing networks to bring in new clients while maintaining relationships with existing clients.
Deal Origination and Execution: Leading the identification and evaluation of potential lending, investment, or advisory opportunities, overseeing the due diligence process, and contributing to the preparation and review of transaction documents.
Upstream and Project Preparation: Leading efforts to identify projects needing further development before they become bankable, mobilizing and leading internal teams to provide advisory services, and conducting risk assessments and feasibility studies.
Team Leadership and Development: Managing cross-functional teams through all stages of transaction execution, mentoring junior staff, and conducting performance reviews.
Collaboration and Teamwork: Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams across IDB Invest, fostering a team-oriented environment, and supporting the Portfolio Management Division as needed.
IDB Group Synergies: Collaborating with public and private sectors to offer the best solutions to clients and interacting with IDB teams to ensure regulatory frameworks enable the structuring of financially viable infrastructure projects.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Senior Investment Officer position should possess a Master’s (or equivalent advanced degree) in Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, International Development, or other relevant fields. Academic specialization in infrastructure development and/or transaction management is desirable. Candidates should have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in loan and equity origination, structuring complex structured finance transactions, and a validated track record of working with a broad range of financial instruments and products. Strong client relationship experience and skills are highly valued, along with confirmed experience in a similar role in a commercial or development bank, advisory firm, or infrastructure company.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Business Administration, Engineering, or International Development. Specialization in infrastructure development and/or transaction management is considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience is required, specifically in loan and equity origination and structuring complex structured finance transactions. Candidates should have a validated track record of working with various financial instruments and products, including equity and mezzanine financing. Experience in a similar role within a commercial or development bank, advisory firm, or infrastructure company is desirable, along with strong client relationship management skills.
Languages: Proficiency in both Spanish and English, spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a broader range of clients and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a national staff contract with an initial duration of 36 months, renewable upon mutual agreement.
