Job Overview: The Consultant for the Emergency Response Unit will play a crucial role in addressing the urgent needs of individuals displaced by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This position involves providing consultancy assistance to implement project activities effectively, particularly focusing on operationalizing cash-based mechanisms to meet the basic needs of beneficiaries. The consultant will be expected to provide critical technical support to the project team and the implementing partner, ensuring that the emergency response is both effective and efficient. The role requires conducting monthly monitoring field trips to assess the situation on the ground, supporting reporting efforts, and responding to ad hoc information requests from donors. The consultant will also be responsible for retrieving, compiling, summarizing, and presenting vital life-saving information related to the emergency response under the Regional Response Plan for 2025-202
Additionally, the consultant will draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other documentation as needed, while maintaining organized files and records.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide consultancy assistance in the implementation of project activities related to emergency response.
Support the operationalization of cash-based mechanisms to address the basic needs of beneficiaries.
Offer critical technical support to the project team and the implementing partner.
Conduct monitoring field trips at least once a month to assess project implementation and beneficiary needs.
Assist in reporting and respond to ad hoc information requests from donors.
Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present critical life-saving information/data on specific project topics.
Draft status reports, correspondence, briefing notes, graphics, statistical tables, presentations, and other documentation.
Respond to general information requests and inquiries.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field is required.
A background in humanitarian work or international development is an advantage.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work autonomously.
Strong personal commitment, efficiency, and drive for results.
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously within a team and in a cross-cultural environment.
Attention to detail is essential.
Strong writing, reporting, and communication skills are required.
Proficiency in MS Office applications at a moderately advanced level.
Familiarity with communication platforms such as Teams and Zoom is beneficial.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in social sciences or a related field. This educational background is essential to understand the complexities of humanitarian response and the socio-economic factors affecting displaced populations.
Experience: Candidates should have a background in humanitarian assistance or international development, which is considered an advantage. The role requires the ability to take initiative and act autonomously, demonstrating personal commitment and efficiency in achieving results. Experience working in cross-cultural environments and with diverse teams is also beneficial, as the consultant will need to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
Languages: Knowledge of the English language is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within IOM. Proficiency in the Slovak language is considered an advantage, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders. Additionally, familiarity with IOM's official languages, which include English, French, and Spanish, may be beneficial, although not required. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The position may require travel as part of the consultancy duties. Any offer made to the candidate is subject to funding confirmation. The appointment will also be contingent upon certification of medical fitness, verification of residency, visa, and necessary authorizations by the concerned government, where applicable. IOM provides coverage for consultants against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) at no cost for the duration of the consultancy. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for such cases. IOM has a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding conduct that is incompatible with the aims and objectives of the United Nations and IOM, including issues related to sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, and discrimination.
