Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a regional development arm of the United Nations Secretariat, established to promote regional cooperation for inclusive economic and social development in the Asian and Pacific region. ESCAP supports its member states through analytical, normative, and technical cooperation, addressing the development priorities and changing needs of the region. The organization plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration among countries and enhancing their capacities to achieve sustainable development goals. ESCAP operates in multiple countries across the Asia-Pacific region, engaging with various stakeholders to facilitate dialogue and implement development initiatives.

Job Overview:
The internship program at ESCAP is designed to provide practical experience in the field of information technology, specifically within the IT Services Management Units (ITSMU) of the Information Technology Section (ITS), Division of Administration (DA). Interns will work under the supervision of an Information Systems Officer and are expected to contribute to various projects and tasks that support the organization's IT service management processes. The internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of five days per week, totaling 35 hours. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a range of activities, including reviewing and documenting ITSM processes, identifying workflow bottlenecks, conducting research on automation tools, and assisting in the development of automation scripts and process documentation. This role is ideal for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in IT service management within a prestigious international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for a variety of tasks that may include: supporting the review and documentation of current IT Service Management (ITSM) processes; assisting in identifying common pain points or bottlenecks in IT support workflows; conducting research on tools and best practices for automating IT service operations; contributing to the preparation of simple automation scripts, templates, or process documentation under supervision; assisting in testing or reviewing AI or digital tools aimed at improving ITSMU efficiency; supporting administrative and coordination tasks related to ongoing ITSMU projects; and participating in team discussions and brainstorming sessions related to service improvement initiatives. The specific duties may vary based on the intern's background and the needs of the division.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic foundation to engage effectively in the internship.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a strong academic background in fields related to information technology, computer science, or a related discipline. A graduate degree or a final year of undergraduate study is preferred, as this will provide the theoretical knowledge and analytical skills necessary for the tasks involved in the internship.

Experience:
While prior work experience is not mandatory for this internship, any relevant experience in information technology, IT service management, or related fields will be considered an asset. Interns should demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements with the organization prior to accepting the internship offer. The internship duration is flexible, ranging from two to six months, depending on the needs of the division and the intern's availability. The United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
