Job Overview: The Information Systems Officer is tasked with managing projects related to the feasibility, analysis, design, and development of information systems, particularly those associated with supply chain management. This role involves collaborating with teams to implement and improve Umoja and other supply chain systems. The officer will develop detailed specifications and user documentation, provide specialized advice and operational support to users, and maintain and enhance existing systems. The position also requires the development of training materials and conducting training sessions for staff on Umoja systems. The officer will be responsible for researching new technologies and facilitating communication between various stakeholders to ensure effective supply chain operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Systems Officer will manage projects that include feasibility studies, systems analysis, and business analysis. Responsibilities include developing system specifications, providing user support, maintaining and enhancing existing systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring data security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The officer will also organize testing, develop training materials, and assist in user acceptance testing. Additionally, the officer will research and evaluate new technologies, participate in business analysis, and provide guidance to junior staff. Other duties may include developing change management plans and ensuring effective communication with clients and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of information technology and management, particularly in systems analysis and database design. Proficiency in high-level programming languages and experience in programming and analysis are essential. The officer should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to maintain systems and develop innovative solutions. A commitment to gender perspectives and equal participation in the workplace is also required.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, design, development, and testing of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems in supply chain management or logistics modules is required. Candidates should have experience as a Functional Expert in SAP, particularly in business process analysis and change management for logistics execution. Experience in managing Business Requirement Documents and providing post-implementation support for Umoja or similar systems is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is desirable but not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position is temporarily available until June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension depending on funding availability. The position may be limited to internal candidates who have been recruited through a competitive examination.
