Job Overview: The Education Officer position at UNICEF involves providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for education programs/projects within the Country Programme. This includes development planning, delivery of results, and managing various technical support aspects focused on improving the physical learning environment and logistics, particularly in relation to climate change. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to facilitate access and inclusion in schools, as well as monitoring and evaluating program progress. The Education Officer will work under the supervision of the Education Specialist (Emergency) NO3 and will be responsible for supporting program development and planning, managing program implementation, and building partnerships.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the development and planning of education programs, ensuring alignment with UNICEF's mission and objectives.
Manage the implementation of education programs, monitoring progress, and ensuring delivery of results.
Conduct capacity building initiatives to strengthen local education systems and stakeholders.
Evaluate and report on program outcomes, making recommendations for improvements.
Collaborate with other sectors to ensure integrated approaches to education and child development.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in education, psychology, sociology, economics, communication, social sciences, or a relevant technical field. A minimum of two years of professional experience in program planning, management, or research in education is required. Fieldwork experience with Decentralized Territorial Structures in Madagascar is considered an asset, as is relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization. Candidates should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.
Educational Background: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: education, psychology, sociology, economics, communication, social sciences, or another relevant technical field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of educational programming and the socio-economic factors affecting children's access to education.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of professional experience in program planning, management, and/or research in education. Candidates with fieldwork experience in decentralized territorial structures in Madagascar will have an advantage. Experience in planning, monitoring, and evaluation of educational programs is also beneficial. Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered an asset, indicating familiarity with international standards and practices in education.
Languages: Fluency in French and Malagasy is required for this position, as these are the primary languages used in Madagascar. Proficiency in English is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the candidate's ability to engage in global discussions regarding education.
