The organization operates in multiple regions within Sudan, including Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. DRC is committed to addressing the needs of one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, which includes over 3.7 million internally displaced people and more than 1.1 million refugees from various countries. The organization is dedicated to providing support amidst the ongoing political crisis and economic turmoil in Sudan, which has been exacerbated by rising food and energy costs, disease outbreaks, and ongoing conflict.

Job Overview:
The Site Management Support (SMS) Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the Site Management Support Team Leader. This role is crucial for the implementation of DRC's Site Management Support activities in Sudan, ensuring that they align with approved methodologies and comply with DRC and donor policies and guidelines. The SMS Assistant will be responsible for fostering good relations with the displaced population and developing effective community engagement mechanisms. This includes supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in taking an active role in their community and establishing a transparent governance system within the site. The position requires a proactive approach to community involvement and the ability to facilitate participation in various aspects of life within the site, ensuring that the voices of the displaced are heard and considered in decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The SMS Assistant will have a diverse set of responsibilities aimed at achieving the objectives of the position. Key duties include supporting the planning and implementation of program activities that provide services and assistance to vulnerable individuals at the site level. This involves assisting the SMS Team Leader in managing work plans and program activities, conducting household registrations, gathering data, and supporting logistical setups for the distribution of non-food items (NFIs), shelter materials, and cash. The SMS Assistant will also be involved in training and capacity building for community groups, particularly focusing on empowering women and youth to identify needs and design community-led projects. Furthermore, the role includes ensuring the mobilization and participation of assisted individuals, particularly emphasizing the inclusion of women, children, the elderly, and persons with specific needs in decision-making processes. The SMS Assistant will also be responsible for mapping safety risks, developing referral mechanisms, and maintaining accurate records of community engagement activities, ensuring that all data is managed in compliance with data protection principles.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience within a humanitarian organization, with prior experience in emergency responses and working in refugee or IDP camps being highly desirable. Experience in community engagement and mobilization, particularly through awareness campaigns and distributions, is essential. The candidate should have a strong understanding of the Gadaref context and experience working directly with Sudanese and Ethiopian communities, as well as local authorities. Excellent communication skills are required, along with proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and basic report writing abilities.

Educational Background:
A university degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, International law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Humanitarian Law (IHL), or Law is required for this position. This educational background will provide the necessary theoretical framework and understanding of the legal and social issues faced by displaced populations.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian work, particularly in emergency response settings. Experience in community engagement and mobilization is crucial, as the role involves direct interaction with vulnerable populations and requires the ability to effectively communicate and facilitate community participation.

Languages:
Proficiency in Arabic is mandatory, while English language skills are also required. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse community members.
