Job Overview:
The National Consultancy to Support the Development of the SDG Investor Map is a critical role aimed at enhancing investment opportunities aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals in Somalia. The consultant will be responsible for conducting comprehensive research and analysis to identify potential investors and investment opportunities that can contribute to the achievement of the SDGs. This position requires a deep understanding of the local economic landscape, investment climate, and the specific needs of various sectors in Somalia. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and other stakeholders to develop a detailed map that outlines viable investment projects, potential investors, and the necessary steps to facilitate these investments. The assignment is expected to last for 40 days within a four-month period, and proposals must be submitted through the designated supplier portal by the specified deadline.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Conducting a thorough analysis of the current investment landscape in Somalia, identifying sectors with high potential for investment aligned with the SDGs.
  • Engaging with local stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations, to gather insights and data relevant to the investment climate.
  • Developing a comprehensive SDG Investor Map that highlights potential investment opportunities, including detailed descriptions of projects, expected outcomes, and alignment with specific SDGs.
  • Preparing a report that summarizes findings, recommendations, and strategies for attracting investment in the identified sectors.
  • Collaborating with UNDP and other partners to ensure that the map is user-friendly and accessible to potential investors.
  • Providing ongoing support and advice to UNDP on investment-related matters throughout the duration of the consultancy.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in economics, finance, or a related field, with proven experience in investment analysis and project development. A solid understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and their implications for investment is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, the ability to work independently, and strong communication skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders. Familiarity with the Somali context and previous experience working in the region will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in economics, finance, business administration, or a related field is required. Candidates with additional certifications or training in investment analysis, project management, or sustainable development will be preferred.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in investment analysis, project development, or consultancy roles. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of sustainable development and investment promotion, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Somali market and previous consultancy experience in similar projects will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Somali or other local languages is considered a strong asset, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultancy.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is classified as an individual contractor position, and the contract duration is for 40 days within a four-month timeframe. The position is expected to be full-time, and candidates may be required to work remotely or on-site in Somalia, depending on the circumstances. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's policies. The deadline for submitting proposals is set for July 29, 2025, at 5:00 AM New York time, and all submissions must be made through the UNDP supplier portal.
